\nJob Purpose
\nThe overall objective of the SD is to provide KVTC with optimum yield, quality, value, and productivity of the Saw filing and Blade Sharpening workshop. The SD will be responsible for the overall performance of the Sawshop and staff that fall under him. The SD must aim at maximizing operational availability of all of KVTC\u2019s cutting tools, including bandsaw blades, circular sawblades, profile cutters, and planer blades. The SD must also evaluate all processing operations on a continuous basis to improve the quality of service that his\/her department renders.

\nKey Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Manage the Sawshop at KVTC by:
\na.\u00a0Preparing and supplying saw blades and cutting tools to the Sawmill by:<\/p>\n
Swaging and setting of teeth
\nSharpening and setting of teeth, side grinding where required
\nTensioning and levelling of blades
\nRepairs and welding of blades where required
\nRe-tipping of carbide blades<\/p>\n
b.\u00a0Training:<\/p>\n
Train an incumbent to Sawdoctor level
\nTrain saw shop employees to saw filer status
\nTrain machine operators to set up blades\/cutting tools on their respective equipment
\nAdvise and support management with the necessary information for decision-making<\/p>\n
c.\u00a0Maintenance:<\/p>\n
Maintain Sawshop tools
\nMaintain Sawshop equipment
\nEnsure Sawshop equipment availability to be at least 95%<\/p>\n
d.\u00a0Purchasing and stock control:<\/p>\n
Ensure agreed stock levels of cutting equipment and consumables are maintained
\nSubmit timely requests for orders to the PM
\nEnsure the best blades are bought at the best price
\nLiaise with suppliers
\nStay within the allocated budget<\/p>\n
e.\u00a0Health and Safety:<\/p>\n
Abide by company Health and Safety rules
\nDemonstrably practice high safety standards in the Sawshop<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Experience<\/p>\n
Trade Certificates in Saw Filing, Saw Doctoring, Cutting Tool Maintenance
\nA Boiler Making qualification may be beneficial
\nFluency in Kiswahili and English
\nAt least 10 years\u2019 experience in a similar role<\/p>\n
