The position
\nThe\u00a0Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST); an institution of The Aga Khan Development Network, completed a major phase II expansion of the\u00a0Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018.
\nThis expansion aimed at improving the Hospital\u2019s quality of facilities and infrastructure to become an ultramodern 170 bed facility to increase its capacity as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to a tertiary care, referral, and teaching hospital.
\nThe Phase II development focused on expanding key clinical services including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services and neurosciences, as well as the expansion of Orthopaedics and Trauma, Diagnostic Imaging, Critical Care and Women and Child Health programmes.
\nThe Hospital is JCI Accredited (achieved a level of quality and patient service that is equal to the best hospitals in the world) and the teaching site for The Aga Khan University, which offers Postgraduate Medical Education programs leading to Master of Medicine in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics and Child Health.
\nIt is also an accredited internship site. As part of the integrated health systems approach, AKHST plans to establish 35 outreach health facilities that are located across Tanzania. Currently, 19 such clinics have been established across the country and linked to the main hospital in Dar es Salaam.
\nAKHST is seeking for enthusiastic, qualified, and experienced personnel as described below:
\nHealth Information System Analyst<\/p>\n
We are seeking a\u00a0meticulous and analytical\u00a0professional to manage dictionaries within our\u00a0hospital\u2019s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system\u00a0and\u00a0develop comprehensive reports\u00a0to support operations, patient care, and administrative decision-making. This role is critical in\u00a0ensuring accurate coding, maintaining data integrity, and providing actionable insights through Advanced Excel and Power BI reporting tools\u00a0to improve hospital performance and compliance.
\nLead the EHR\/ERP implementation in Mombasa and Kisumu in relation to development of financial and other dictionaries, staff training and report development.
\nEHR Dictionary Management:<\/p>\n
Maintain and update clinical terminologies and dictionaries within the hospital\u2019s EHR system, including diagnosis codes, procedure codes, lab test codes, and medication terminologies.
\nCollaborate with clinical departments (nursing, physicians, lab, pharmacy) to ensure dictionaries reflect current clinical practices and hospital protocols.
\nConduct regular audits of dictionary entries and coding to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and internal standards.
\nManage dictionary version control and coordinate updates with IT and EHR vendor support teams.<\/p>\n
Reporting & Data Analysis:<\/p>\n
Develop, automate, and distribute detailed operational, clinical, and compliance reports using Advanced Excel and Power BI.
\nAnalyze patient care data, utilization trends, quality metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support hospital leadership and clinical teams.
\nCollaborate with clinical, administrative, and IT teams to identify reporting needs and develop tailored dashboards and visualization tools.<\/p>\n
Collaboration & Training:<\/p>\n
Work closely with Health Information Management (HIM), clinical departments, and IT to ensure accurate dictionary management and reporting outputs.
\nProvide training and support to end-users on dictionary usage, data interpretation, and report generation.
\nDocument workflows, policies, and procedures related to dictionary maintenance and reporting.<\/p>\n
Lead Implementation of EHR\/ERP in Mombasa and Kisumu which includes<\/p>\n
Dictionary development, including services, pricing, etc.
\nStaff training on dictionary development and usage defined as core responsibilities
\nReport development\/replication.<\/p>\n
The requirements
\nQualification:<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Health Informatics, Health Information Management, Information Technology, or ACCA, CPA, ACMA.
\nProficient in Advanced Excel (pivot tables, macros, Power Query) and Power BI for reporting and data visualization.
\nKnowledge of hospital EHR environment and healthcare business \/ systems.
\nFamiliarity with hospital EHR platforms i.e. Meditech preferred.
\nStrong analytical skills and attention to detail.
\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills to engage clinical and administrative teams.
\nUnderstanding of healthcare regulatory requirements and data privacy standard<\/p>\n
Knowledge & Experience:\u00a0<\/p>\n
Through knowledge of Hospital Financial and Health Information Management System.
\nExperience with SQL or other data querying languages.
\nMinimum of 3 years\u2019 experience in the related field.<\/p>\n
