\nRole Overview
\nShanta Mining Company Limited (SMCL) is seeking a qualified and motivated Geotechnician to join our exploration team. The Geotechnician will provide essential support to geological exploration programs by assisting geologists in field activities, supervising sampling operations, managing geological data and equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety and QAQC procedures. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining operational efficiency, data integrity, and compliance with company standards during exploration campaigns.
\nKey Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Field & Technical Operations<\/p>\n
Assist geologists in daily exploration and fieldwork activities.
\nIdentify and report any new or interesting geological potential observed in the field.
\nSupervise soil and grab sampling programs.
\nManage site setup and oversee pitting and trenching operations according to company procedures.
\nSupervise rehabilitation of pits and trenches after completion.
\nOversee RC drilling programs, ensuring samples are correctly collected, tagged, and packaged per standard procedures.
\nHandle RC sample management, including sampling, packing, and secure transport to camp.
\nImplement and monitor QAQC procedures on all collected samples.
\nManage the pickup and return of field equipment.
\nHandle diamond drilling cores, including marking orientation lines, core blocks, and meter marks.
\nConduct geotechnical logging on diamond cores (Recovery, RQD, TFF, Roughness, and Infills).
\nPerform diamond core sampling and ensure proper labeling and storage.
\nMaintain and manage an accurate inventory of all geological equipment.<\/p>\n
Communication & Safety<\/p>\n
Serve as a communication link between field staff and management.
\nParticipate in departmental safety meetings and ensure outcomes are effectively communicated to the field team.
\nPromote and enforce compliance with all company safety procedures and standards in the field.<\/p>\n
Exploration Administration & Camp Coordination<\/p>\n
Accurately capture, manage, and file geological data (both digital and hard copy).
\nManage administrative issues related to exploration operations.
\nCoordinate daily activities within the exploration camp.
\nControl departmental finances and prepare monthly summary reports.
\nManage staff requirements and logistics within the department.
\nOversee PPE issuance and maintain accurate records of distribution and returns.
\nConduct periodic inventory updates for tools, materials, and camp equipment.<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Experience<\/p>\n
Education: Diploma in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
\nExperience: Prior fieldwork experience in exploration projects is highly preferred.
\nTechnical Skills & Competencies:<\/p>\n
Knowledge of soil, grab, pit, trench, RC, and diamond drilling sampling techniques.
\nStrong skills in data management, equipment handling, and field reporting.
\nProven ability to coordinate camp operations and maintain accurate inventories.
\nStrong organizational, communication, and teamwork abilities.
\nCommitment to safety and operational discipline.<\/p>\n

The role is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing all aspects of underground mining operations \u2014 including production and development planning, engineering design, feasibility studies, scheduling, and daily activity tracking. \nKey Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Operational & Planning<\/p>\n
Support the Senior Underground Mining Engineer in preparing operational and capital budgets.
\nManage day-to-day planning activities in alignment with monthly, annual, and long-term production plans.
\nPrepare development and stope designs and schedules to ensure safe and efficient production.
\nAdminister mining production processes and oversee on-site activities.
\nCollaborate with the Senior Engineer to review production schedules and implement contingency plans when required.
\nPerform other duties as assigned in line with company procedures, operational standards, and safety requirements.<\/p>\n

Promote and ensure the health and safety of all site personnel.
\nDesign mine infrastructure, ventilation systems, and mining services.

\nReport all obstacles, hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly and accurately.<\/p>\n
Team Collaboration & Reporting<\/p>\n
Work closely with shift leaders, foremen, and captains to communicate plans and achieve production targets.
\nCompile and present monthly or quarterly production forecasts and performance reports.
\nManage required permits and ensure all activities comply with mining regulations.
\nProvide coaching, mentorship, and technical support to junior engineers and team members.<\/p>\n

Qualifications and Experience<\/p>\n
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering from a recognized university.
\nExperience:<\/p>\n
Minimum of 5 years\u2019 experience in an underground mining environment.
\nAt least 2 years\u2019 experience in underground mine design, planning, and scheduling.
\nExperience in gold mining and narrow vein mining preferred.<\/p>\n
Technical Skills & Competencies:<\/p>\n
Proficiency in underground mining design and planning software (Deswik preferred).
\nStrong communication, presentation, planning, and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n
