Job Summary<\/p>\n
Conduct sub-surface surveys to identify the characteristics of potential land or mining development sites.
\nProvide input in specifying the ground support systems, processes and equipment for safe, economical, and environmentally sound extraction or underground construction activities.
\nImplement, and coordinate mining plans and safety programs<\/p>\n
Duties and Responsibilities\u00a0<\/p>\n
Conduct initial surveys, risk assessments and environmental impact assessments on potential sites to assess whether plans are workable.
\nSelect locations and plan underground or surface mining operations, specifying processes, labour usage, and equipment that will result in safe, economical, and environmentally sound extraction of minerals and ores.
\nImplement and monitor the development of mines, facilities, systems, or equipment.
\nInspect mining areas for unsafe structures, equipment, and working conditions.
\nExamine maps, deposits, drilling locations, or mines to determine the location, size, accessibility, contents, value, and potential profitability of deposits.
\nSelect or develop mineral location, extraction, and production methods, based on factors such as safety, cost, and deposit characteristics.
\nPrepare technical reports for use by mining, engineering, and management personnel.
\nMonitor mine production rates to assess operational effectiveness.
\nPrepare schedules, reports, and estimates of the costs involved in developing and operating mines.
\nSelect or devise materials-handling methods and equipment to transport ore, waste materials, and mineral products efficiently and economically.
\nDirect and supervise mine construction operations, such as the construction of shafts and tunnels.
\nPredict the environmental effects and impacts of mining, including air pollution and destruction of the landscape and devise solutions such as methods of storing excavated soil and returning exhausted mine sites to natural states
\nEvaluate data to develop new mining products, equipment, or processes.
\nDesign, develop, and implement computer applications for use in mining operations such as mine design, modeling, or mapping or for monitoring mine conditions
\nImplement and coordinate mine safety programs, including the design and maintenance of protective and rescue equipment and safety devices.
\nPerform any other duties assigned by the Head, Mines.<\/p>\n
Qualification, Experience, Skills and Competencies<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree or its equivalent in Mining Engineering or related discipline
\nMinimum of five (5) years mining experience in operations, engineering and project evaluation.
\nIn-depth knowledge of mineral estate economics, mineral properties, planning legislation and health and safety issues.
\nProven experience in underground mine design and development.
\nGood knowledge of the cement manufacturing industry.
\nWorking knowledge of mine equipment selection, capital cost and operating cost estimates.
\nWorking knowledge of surveying technology\/ mine planning software such as Minesight, AutoCAD or other mine development software.
\nAbility to interpret maps, charts and graphical data
\nStrong scientific and mathematical background
\nMethodical approach to work practices with strong emphasis on quality.
\nAbility to pay attention to details.<\/p>\n
