Role Purpose
\nWe are seeking a highly experienced and delivery-focused\u00a0Project Manager\u00a0to lead the end-to-end execution of complex irrigation infrastructure projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful planning, design, implementation, and operational integration of irrigation systems that drive agricultural productivity and sustainability.
\nWith a strong emphasis on\u00a0project management excellence, the successful candidate will oversee capital project delivery, manage cross-functional teams and contractors, and ensure alignment with strategic agricultural goals. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep technical knowledge, field-based execution, and a relentless focus on delivering value through infrastructure performance, operational readiness, and continuous improvement.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nHealth & Safety Leadership<\/p>\n
Champion a culture of safety across all project phases.
\nEnsure full compliance with health and safety regulations and internal protocols.<\/p>\n
Project Management & Delivery<\/p>\n
Lead the full lifecycle of irrigation and drainage infrastructure projects, from concept to commissioning, ensuring strong interface with the RDO team, agricultural operational and engineering teams
\nOwn and manage project business cases, ensuring financial integrity and alignment with strategic plans.
\nDevelop and maintain detailed project schedules using RDO methodologies to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
\nLead adherence to RDO project governance, ensuring controls, risk mitigation, and milestone tracking.<\/p>\n
Agricultural Infrastructure Support<\/p>\n
Serve as the principal engineering advisor to the Agriculture Department, ensuring infrastructure meets evolving agronomic needs.
\nTranslate production goals into technical project requirements and delivery outcomes.<\/p>\n
Contract & Stakeholder Management<\/p>\n
Procure, negotiate, and manage contracts with 1C teams, external vendors and contractors.
\nMonitor performance, quality, and delivery timelines to ensure alignment with project objectives.<\/p>\n
Design & Technical Oversight<\/p>\n
Lead the evaluation and selection of irrigation system designs tailored to site-specific conditions.
\nEnsure all design alternatives are rigorously assessed for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and performance.<\/p>\n
Maintenance & Reliability<\/p>\n
Develop proactive maintenance strategies, including critical spares planning and inventory optimization.
\nSupport operational teams in minimizing downtime and maximizing system reliability.<\/p>\n
Change Management & Upgrades<\/p>\n
Drive infrastructure upgrades through structured change management processes.
\nEnsure seamless transitions with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.<\/p>\n
Training & Capability Building<\/p>\n
Deliver technical training and support to field teams and operators.
\nBuild operational confidence and competence in system use and maintenance.<\/p>\n
Project Handover & Operational Integration<\/p>\n
Ensure comprehensive handover of completed projects to operations, including documentation, training, and SOPs.<\/p>\n
Governance, Compliance & Reporting<\/p>\n
Ensure all projects comply with internal governance frameworks, regulatory standards, and H&S requirements.
\nTrack and report through the RDO on project performance, ROI, and alignment with strategic agricultural outcomes.<\/p>\n
Risk & Quality Management<\/p>\n
Apply structured risk management and quality assurance practices throughout the project lifecycle.<\/p>\n
Job Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
\nMinimum 7 years of relevant experience in irrigation project delivery.
\nProject Management qualification
\nFamiliarity with industry-standard contract forms and procurement processes.
\nExperience with sugarcane irrigation systems is a strong advantage.
\nIn-depth knowledge of capital project processes and systems.<\/p>\n
Expertise and Skill<\/p>\n
Proven track record in delivering large-scale irrigation infrastructure projects in agricultural environments.
\nDeep technical expertise in irrigation system design, installation, and lifecycle management.
\nStrong project management capabilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement.
\nDemonstrated ability to lead field-based teams and drive operational excellence.
\nExperience in change management and continuous improvement within operational settings.
\nExcellent communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n
