{"id":3621,"date":"2026-05-05T16:00:34","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T16:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/tanzania\/job\/advocacy-and-communication-officer-at-thamini-uhai\/"},"modified":"2026-05-20T00:50:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T00:50:10","slug":"advocacy-and-communication-officer-at-thamini-uhai","status":"expired","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/jobs.dataaxisnode.com\/tanzania\/?post_type=job_listing&p=3621","title":{"rendered":"Advocacy and Communication Officer at Thamini Uhai"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thamini Uhai, formerly World Lung foundation, is a Tanzanian non-governmental organization that has partnered with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania since 2008 to reduce maternal and early neonatal mortality and strengthen health systems in underserved rural areas.<br \/>\nFrom 2008 to 2019, Thamini Uhai worked with Bloomberg Philanthropies to expand quality Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care services and, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Local Government Authorities, piloted and scaled birth companionship as a core element of respectful maternity care across 27 health facilities in Kigoma, Katavi, Geita, and Mwanza Regions.<br \/>\nPartnership Program for Maternal and Newborn Health Improvement in Tanzania<br \/>\nThamini Uhai has received funding for implementation of Partnership Program for Comprehensive and Integrated Maternal and Newborn Health Improvement (Mjamzito na Mtoto Salama) in Tanzania.<br \/>\nThis is a five-year program implemented in 3 regions of Tanzania Mainland. The initiative is jointly supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Gates Foundation and will be implemented in two phases from September 2025 to June 2027 and from July 2027 to June 2030 in Geita, Katavi and Kigoma regions.<br \/>\nThe program will contribute to accelerating 2030 SDG targets through improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in Tanzania by strengthening the delivery of quality and respectful Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC)- including the postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), antenatal care, and comprehensive newborn care, with a particular emphasis on scaling up care for small and sick newborns.<br \/>\nThe initiative will also provide strategic technical support to the Ministry of Health in reviewing technical guidelines and associated learning resources.<br \/>\nIn this regard, Thamini Uhai wishes to recruit the following positions:<br \/>\nPosition<br \/>\nADVOCACY AND COMMUNICATION OFFICER, (1 position)<br \/>\nPosition description<\/p>\n<p>Department:\u00a0Program<br \/>\nReports to:\u00a0Advocacy and communication Manager<br \/>\nAssignment type:\u00a0Full-time<br \/>\nLocation:\u00a0Geita<br \/>\nLength:\u00a0One year<\/p>\n<p>Position summary<\/p>\n<p>The advocacy and communication officer provides leadership and technical oversight for social and behavior change (SBC) and communication functions under the Mjamzito na Mtoto Salama project, ensuring that community engagement, health promotion, and program visibility efforts are strategically aligned, evidence-based, and delivered to high-quality standards.<br \/>\nThe role leads the planning, coordination, and implementation of SBC and communication strategies in alignment with program objectives, national priorities, and donor requirements, while providing technical guidance to partners and government stakeholders on effective approaches.<br \/>\nIt oversees capacity strengthening, performance monitoring, and mentorship activities in collaboration with community leaders and local governance structures, and ensures that complex maternal and newborn health interventions, supply chain strategies, and systems strengthening initiatives are translated into clear, accurate, and audience-appropriate communication products.<br \/>\nThe role further strengthens program positioning by promoting consistent, high-quality messaging, leads documentation and knowledge management to capture and disseminate program achievements and lessons, and establishes monitoring systems to track performance and inform adaptive improvements.<br \/>\nIn addition, it ensures compliance with donor visibility and reporting requirements, while coordinating budget planning and resource utilization for SBC and communication activities to support efficient, accountable, and results-oriented implementation.<br \/>\nKey responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>Provides direction for how the program is positioned, communicated, and recognized across stakeholders and platforms.<br \/>\nEnsures all communication outputs meet donor expectations while enabling structured and responsible engagement with media and public audiences.<br \/>\nTransforms complex technical content into clear, high-quality materials that are accessible to diverse audiences.<br \/>\nCaptures, organizes, and disseminates program knowledge to support learning, accountability, and scale-up.<br \/>\nStrengthens reporting processes by ensuring clear, evidence-based communication of program progress and results.<br \/>\nDrives online visibility and engagement through strategic use of digital platforms and content.<br \/>\nSupports alignment and effective communication across all stakeholders involved in program implementation.<br \/>\nAdvances policy engagement by translating evidence into compelling messages that support decisionmaking.<br \/>\nEnsures effective communication planning, execution, and follow-up for program events and campaigns.<br \/>\nMaintains high standards of integrity by ensuring communication adheres to ethical, legal, and donor requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications and experience<br \/>\nThe role requires strong academic grounding and relevant professional experience in communication within development or health programs.<\/p>\n<p>Bachelor\u2019s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Health, or a related field<br \/>\nA master\u2019s degree is an added advantage<br \/>\nMinimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communication within development or health programs<br \/>\nDemonstrated experience working with donor-funded programs and government institutions<\/p>\n<p>Sharing is Caring!
