The school emphasizes mastery of basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics, while also nurturing critical thinking, collaboration, and entrepreneurial abilities.<br \/>\nSilverleaf\u2019s mission is to prepare students for the future with well-rounded skills. The academy is currently scaling up its Usa River campus to serve over 1,000 students by January 2025.<br \/>\nRole Overview<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary will be responsible for overseeing the academic and developmental progress of students in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n<p>Reporting to the Head Teacher, the role involves implementing the curriculum, managing the teaching team, tracking student progress, and ensuring that students meet the desired learning outcomes.<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary will also play a key role in supporting the holistic development of students through co-curricular programs and engaging with parents to promote a strong home-school partnership.<br \/>\nKey Responsibilities<br \/>\n1. School Culture and Team Development<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary will support a strong school culture and contribute to the growth and development of teachers and staff in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nKey responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<p>Conducting performance evaluations for teaching staff in Grades 5, 6, and 7, and providing feedback on strengths and areas for development.<br \/>\nWorking in partnership with the Head Teacher to implement:<\/p>\n<p>A yearly professional development vision for the school.<br \/>\nA yearly development calendar.<br \/>\nWeekly coaching and development experiences for teammates.<br \/>\nA strong performance appraisal system.<\/p>\n<p>Fostering a positive and collaborative environment among teachers and staff in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nImplementing and leading cultural activities and rituals for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nFacilitating a culture of self-awareness where teammates in Grades 5, 6, and 7 value personal and professional development and are invested in feedback and growth.<br \/>\nConducting daily and bi-weekly cultural, academic, and technology walkthroughs and observations for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n<p>2. Student Experience: Academic Performance, Student Development, Behavior, and Co-curriculars<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary will support the academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and co-curricular development of students in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n<p>Key responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<p>Supporting the Head Teacher to implement a yearly student experience vision and plan for the school.<br \/>\nSupporting the Head Teacher to implement a yearly and measurable plan to ensure that students are developed:<\/p>\n<p>Academically.<br \/>\nSocially.<br \/>\nEmotionally.<br \/>\nThrough their co-curricular experience.<\/p>\n<p>Partnering with the School Manager and the Head Teacher to set targets for all academic metrics by grade level and by student.<br \/>\nAttending weekly academic data meetings to ensure academic targets are being met.<br \/>\nImplementing targeted intervention programs for struggling students in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nFacilitating health and wellness programs that support physical and mental well-being for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nFacilitating student leadership opportunities, such as student councils, for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nAttending bi-weekly Student Leaders meetings to ensure that student voice guides decision-making and development.<br \/>\nEnsuring that the child protection policy and child wellness policies are followed.<br \/>\nLeading the campus AAR as needed for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nConducting weekly audits to ensure that child protection and child wellness policies are followed in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nEnsuring that positive behavior practices are implemented for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nEnsuring the use of Class Dojo to reinforce behavior management in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nEnsuring that all behavioral concerns are addressed or escalated before the end of the day on which they occur.<br \/>\nEnsuring the execution of co-curricular activities by coordinating with the co-curricular coordinator and external partners.<br \/>\nEnsuring that co-curricular activities are diverse, engaging, and aligned with development goals.<br \/>\nEnsuring a well-rounded club and sports program.<br \/>\nSupporting student participation in extracurricular competitions.<\/p>\n<p>3. School Sustainability and Operations: Enrollment, Operational Efficiencies, and Finance<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary will support effective academic operations and ensure that school systems run smoothly for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nKey responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<p>Working with the Head Teacher to ensure smooth day-to-day academic operations, including:<\/p>\n<p>Teaching timetable scheduling.<br \/>\nAssessment scheduling.<br \/>\nTeaching and learning resources management.<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring compliance with all health and safety protocols for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<br \/>\nEnsuring compliance with child protection policies for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n<p>4. Community Engagement: Parents, Community Members, Partner Organizations, and Stakeholders<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary will help strengthen relationships between the school, parents, community members, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.<br \/>\nKey responsibilities include:<\/p>\n<p>Supporting the Head Teacher to implement regular feedback mechanisms for all stakeholders, including:<\/p>\n<p>Parents.<br \/>\nCommunity members.<br \/>\nPartners.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting the Head Teacher to organize regular parent-teacher conferences to:<\/p>\n<p>Discuss student progress.<br \/>\nSet goals.<br \/>\nProvide academic updates.<br \/>\nProvide behavioral updates.<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring communication channels with parents are clear and consistent.<\/p>\n<p>Education and Experience Requirements<br \/>\nCandidates should meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<p>Education:\u00a0Must have a teaching degree from an institution recognized by the Government of Tanzania.<br \/>\nExperience:\u00a0Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role, such as Grade Coordinator or Head of Department.<br \/>\nLeadership Skills:\u00a0Proven ability to lead and inspire teachers to achieve academic goals.<br \/>\nCurriculum and Training Experience:\u00a0Experience in curriculum development and teacher training.<br \/>\nStudent-Centric Approach:\u00a0Strong background in student assessment, student development, and creating student-centered learning environments.<br \/>\nCommunity Engagement:\u00a0Experience in building relationships with parents and communities to support student success.<br \/>\nLanguages:\u00a0Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili.<\/p>\n<p>Values<br \/>\nThe Head of Upper Primary is expected to embody and promote the core values of Silverleaf Academy.<br \/>\n1.
