\nUsing Tanzania\u2019s national curriculum, Silverleaf incorporates a tech-supported and inclusive learning approach. The school emphasizes mastery of basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics, while also nurturing critical thinking, collaboration, and entrepreneurial abilities.
\nSilverleaf\u2019s mission is to prepare students for the future with well-rounded skills. The academy is currently scaling up its Usa River campus to serve over 1,000 students by January 2025.
\nRole Overview
\nThe Head of Upper Primary will be responsible for overseeing the academic and developmental progress of students in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n
Reporting to the Head Teacher, the role involves implementing the curriculum, managing the teaching team, tracking student progress, and ensuring that students meet the desired learning outcomes.
\nThe Head of Upper Primary will also play a key role in supporting the holistic development of students through co-curricular programs and engaging with parents to promote a strong home-school partnership.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n1. School Culture and Team Development
\nThe Head of Upper Primary will support a strong school culture and contribute to the growth and development of teachers and staff in Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nKey responsibilities include:<\/p>\n
Conducting performance evaluations for teaching staff in Grades 5, 6, and 7, and providing feedback on strengths and areas for development.
\nWorking in partnership with the Head Teacher to implement:<\/p>\n
A yearly professional development vision for the school.
\nA yearly development calendar.
\nWeekly coaching and development experiences for teammates.
\nA strong performance appraisal system.<\/p>\n
Fostering a positive and collaborative environment among teachers and staff in Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nImplementing and leading cultural activities and rituals for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nFacilitating a culture of self-awareness where teammates in Grades 5, 6, and 7 value personal and professional development and are invested in feedback and growth.
\nConducting daily and bi-weekly cultural, academic, and technology walkthroughs and observations for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n
2. Student Experience: Academic Performance, Student Development, Behavior, and Co-curriculars
\nThe Head of Upper Primary will support the academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and co-curricular development of students in Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n
Key responsibilities include:<\/p>\n
Supporting the Head Teacher to implement a yearly student experience vision and plan for the school.
\nSupporting the Head Teacher to implement a yearly and measurable plan to ensure that students are developed:<\/p>\n
Academically.
\nSocially.
\nEmotionally.
\nThrough their co-curricular experience.<\/p>\n
Partnering with the School Manager and the Head Teacher to set targets for all academic metrics by grade level and by student.
\nAttending weekly academic data meetings to ensure academic targets are being met.
\nImplementing targeted intervention programs for struggling students in Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nFacilitating health and wellness programs that support physical and mental well-being for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nFacilitating student leadership opportunities, such as student councils, for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nAttending bi-weekly Student Leaders meetings to ensure that student voice guides decision-making and development.
\nEnsuring that the child protection policy and child wellness policies are followed.
\nLeading the campus AAR as needed for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nConducting weekly audits to ensure that child protection and child wellness policies are followed in Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nEnsuring that positive behavior practices are implemented for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nEnsuring the use of Class Dojo to reinforce behavior management in Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nEnsuring that all behavioral concerns are addressed or escalated before the end of the day on which they occur.
\nEnsuring the execution of co-curricular activities by coordinating with the co-curricular coordinator and external partners.
\nEnsuring that co-curricular activities are diverse, engaging, and aligned with development goals.
\nEnsuring a well-rounded club and sports program.
\nSupporting student participation in extracurricular competitions.<\/p>\n
3. School Sustainability and Operations: Enrollment, Operational Efficiencies, and Finance
\nThe Head of Upper Primary will support effective academic operations and ensure that school systems run smoothly for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nKey responsibilities include:<\/p>\n
Working with the Head Teacher to ensure smooth day-to-day academic operations, including:<\/p>\n
Teaching timetable scheduling.
\nAssessment scheduling.
\nTeaching and learning resources management.<\/p>\n
Ensuring compliance with all health and safety protocols for Grades 5, 6, and 7.
\nEnsuring compliance with child protection policies for Grades 5, 6, and 7.<\/p>\n
4. Community Engagement: Parents, Community Members, Partner Organizations, and Stakeholders
\nThe Head of Upper Primary will help strengthen relationships between the school, parents, community members, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
\nKey responsibilities include:<\/p>\n
Supporting the Head Teacher to implement regular feedback mechanisms for all stakeholders, including:<\/p>\n
Parents.
\nCommunity members.
\nPartners.<\/p>\n
Supporting the Head Teacher to organize regular parent-teacher conferences to:<\/p>\n
Discuss student progress.
\nSet goals.
\nProvide academic updates.
\nProvide behavioral updates.<\/p>\n
Ensuring communication channels with parents are clear and consistent.<\/p>\n
Education and Experience Requirements
\nCandidates should meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n
Education:\u00a0Must have a teaching degree from an institution recognized by the Government of Tanzania.
\nExperience:\u00a0Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role, such as Grade Coordinator or Head of Department.
\nLeadership Skills:\u00a0Proven ability to lead and inspire teachers to achieve academic goals.
\nCurriculum and Training Experience:\u00a0Experience in curriculum development and teacher training.
\nStudent-Centric Approach:\u00a0Strong background in student assessment, student development, and creating student-centered learning environments.
\nCommunity Engagement:\u00a0Experience in building relationships with parents and communities to support student success.
\nLanguages:\u00a0Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili.<\/p>\n
