\nGeneral manager
\nOur Client, a leading pharmaceutical organisation in Tanzania, is seeking a qualified and experienced professional to fill the position of General Manager.
\nThe role holder will provide strategic and operational oversight of the organisation\u2019s pharmaceutical manufacturing entities and affiliated operations.
\nThe role holder will be part of the Executive Management team and report directly to the Board of Directors.
\nKey roles and responsibilities
\ni. Strategic leadership & planning<\/p>\n
Provide strategic leadership for the pharmaceutical manufacturing portfolio, setting the organisation\u2019s long-term vision in alignment with national health priorities, Board directives, and competitive positioning.
\nLead the development, execution, and periodic review of corporate and business strategies, ensuring responsiveness to market dynamics, healthcare sector trends, and organisational performance.
\nEnsure strategic coherence and alignment across all manufacturing entities, joint ventures, partnerships, and operations to deliver sustainable organisational outcomes.<\/p>\n
ii. Business development & investment strategy<\/p>\n
Identify, evaluate, and execute new business, partnership, and investment opportunities within the healthcare manufacturing sector.
\nDevelop and present business cases, lead negotiations, and secure funding for approved investments.<\/p>\n
iii. Operational oversight & performance management<\/p>\n
Establish and oversee clear operational goals, performance metrics, and governance frameworks to drive accountability and consistent performance across all business units.
\nLead, delegate, and manage the performance of the senior leadership team to ensure effective execution of organisational strategy.<\/p>\n
iv. Regulatory compliance & quality assurance<\/p>\n
Ensure full compliance with pharmaceutical regulations, GMP standards, and industry best practices across all operations.
\nOversee regulatory affairs, quality management systems, and readiness for inspections and audits.
\nEstablish a culture of quality and compliance throughout the organization.<\/p>\n
v. Stakeholder management & strategic partnerships<\/p>\n
Build and manage strategic relationships with the Board, government, regulators, investors, and development partners.
\nRepresent the organisation externally and drive partnerships that strengthen market positioning and competitiveness.
\nEstablish partnerships with leading pharmaceutical companies, research institutions, and healthcare sector stakeholders.<\/p>\n
vi. Organisational leadership & development<\/p>\n
Lead, mentor, and develop the senior leadership team to build a high-performance culture.
\nDrive organisational structure, change initiatives, and talent development to support strategic objectives.
\nFoster a culture of innovation, accountability, and operational excellence.<\/p>\n
vii. Board & governance<\/p>\n
Report to the Board of Trustees on organisational performance, strategy, and material issues.
\nEnsure compliance with Board-approved policies and governance frameworks.
\nImplement Board directives and decisions effectively across the organisation.
\nContribute to Board strategic planning sessions and governance initiatives.<\/p>\n
Academic\/professional qualification and experience<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Health Sciences, or a related medical field is mandatory.
\nA Master\u2019s degree in Business Administration, Investment, Strategic Management, Public Health, or a related field (e.g., MBA, MPM, MPH) is highly preferred.
\n8\u201310 years\u2019 executive leadership experience (C-suite or equivalent) with direct responsibility for business operations, P&L, and strategic direction in manufacturing environments.
\nExtensive experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or related healthcare industries, preferably within an international or multinational organisation, with strong understanding of medical\/pharmaceutical commodities, supply chains, and market dynamics.
\nProven track record in scaling and growing complex manufacturing enterprises, including business development, investment planning, and execution of strategic growth initiatives.<\/p>\n
Key competencies and skills<\/p>\n
Comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, GMP standards, and regulatory requirements.
\nUnderstanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing landscape, market dynamics, and public health needs.
\nKnowledge of supply chain management, distribution networks, and healthcare customer relationships.
\nUnderstanding of financial management, capital structure, and healthcare sector economics.<\/p>\n
