\nFema Mining and Drilling Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced\u00a0Rig Mechanic\u00a0to join its team.
\nThe successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and servicing of drilling rigs and other heavy mining equipment to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and operational efficiency.
\nThe ideal candidate must have strong technical expertise in drilling rigs and broad knowledge of various types of heavy mining equipment.
\nKey responsibilities
\nThe Rig Mechanic will be responsible for the following duties:<\/p>\n
Perform routine preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on drilling rigs, including surface and underground rigs.
\nTroubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on rigs and heavy equipment.
\nService, repair, and overhaul engines, transmissions, compressors, mud pumps, drawworks, rotary tables, and other rig components.
\nCarry out repairs on other heavy mining equipment, including:<\/p>\n
Excavators
\nBulldozers
\nWheel loaders
\nDump trucks
\nGraders
\nDrill support vehicles
\nAncillary equipment<\/p>\n
Conduct regular inspections to identify potential equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
\nMaintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, and spare parts inventory.
\nEnsure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards, company policies, and OEM guidelines.
\nCollaborate with drilling operators and supervisors to minimize equipment downtime.
\nSupport breakdown repairs during shifts, including after-hours when required.
\nParticipate in equipment mobilization and demobilization activities.
\nTrain and mentor junior technicians when necessary.<\/p>\n
Required qualifications and experience
\nApplicants should meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n
Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
\nMinimum of 5 years of relevant experience as a Rig Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the mining industry.
\nProven hands-on experience working on drilling rigs, such as:<\/p>\n
Atlas Copco
\nSandvik
\nBoart Longyear
\nOr equivalent equipment<\/p>\n
Strong knowledge of other heavy mining equipment is mandatory, including:<\/p>\n
Caterpillar
\nKomatsu
\nVolvo
\nHitachi
\nLiebherr machinery<\/p>\n
Experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and air compressors is essential.<\/p>\n
Key skills and competencies
\nThe ideal candidate should have the following skills and competencies:<\/p>\n
Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
\nAbility to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
\nProficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
\nKnowledge of safety procedures, including:<\/p>\n
PPE
\nLock-Out\/Tag-Out
\nPermit to Work systems<\/p>\n
Good command of English and\/or Swahili.
\nAbility to work independently in remote mining sites with minimal supervision.
\nPhysically fit and able to work in harsh mining environments.
\nValid driving license is an added advantage.<\/p>\n
