We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer to join our mining operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, training personnel and implementing safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment.
\nKey Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Develop and implement safety policies and procedures \u2013 This includes creating and updating safety protocols to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
\nConduct safety audits and inspections \u2013 Regularly assessing the workplace to identify hazards, risks, and areas for improvement.
\nInvestigate incidents and accidents \u2013 Analyzing incidents and accidents to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
\nProvide safety training and awareness \u2013 Conducting training programs for all employees on safety procedures, regulations, and best practices.
\nMaintain safety records and prepare reports \u2013 Keeping accurate records of safety activities, incidents, and training programs, and providing reports to management.
\nCollaborate with management \u2013 Working with management to promote a safe working culture and address safety concerns.
\nAssess and control hazards \u2013 Identifying and managing potential hazards, including toxic fumes, explosive gas mixtures, and other workplace risks.
\nEnsure proper storage of dangerous materials \u2013 Implementing procedures for the safe storage and handling of hazardous substances.
\nCoordinate emergency procedures \u2013 Assisting in the coordination of emergency responses, including rescue operations, firefighting, and first aid.<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Skills:<\/p>\n
Full grade twelve certificate
\nCertificate or better in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
\nMinimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role within the mining industry.
\nStrong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
\nExcellent communication and problem-solving skills.
\nIn possession of a First Aid Certificate (Chamber of Mines).<\/p>\n
