\nThe LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY LIMITED (LAMUL) is a privately owned Health services and Health Education company, operating the Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre (AMDC) which is regulated by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ), and the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre is looking for a mature, proactive, ethical, highly motivated, and result oriented Zambian professional with a high degree of credibility and integrity to fill the following position:
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0 GENERAL MEDICAL OFFICER- APEX MEDICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE
\nJOB PURPOSE
\nProvides leadership, in the provision of Medical care and health promotion services to ensure that the Public are exposed to good healthcare Services. The General Medical Officer is the resident Physician at the Medical Centre and co-ordinates attached medical specialists and their clinics do deliver quality medical services to patients.
\nRESPONSIBILITIES\/ DUTIES
\nPrepares the Departmental budget and annual work plan with input from subordinates.
\nSuperintends over the planning of medical care and health.
\nApprises Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre Management on medical and health matters in order to enable the Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre provide the required intervention or support in a timely manner.
\nParticipates in the formulation of Medical care and Health promotion policies to ensure that the health concerns of the staff, students and any other stakeholders are catered for in an efficient and cost effective manner.
\nDetermines and Requests for the provision of drugs, equipment, medical linen and other medical accessories for the dispensary and Medial Centre in consultation with a pharmacist.
\nControls the clinical operation of the Medical Centre to ensure that all the medical and health procedures are in line with relevant laws, regulations and professional standards.
\nMakes diagnosis, carrying out relevant investigations e.g blood glucose test, Malaria test urine\/ stool analysis and HIV test, thereafter determines and prescribes appropriate treatment. Undertakes minor surgical operations and suturing of wounds.
\nExamines and refers all serious cases and emergencies in absence of superior to a referral Hospital for which the clinic is not equipped to handle or treat or diagnose due to lack of appropriate testing equipment and diagnostic tools e.g cancer or any other severe conditions.
\nManages and monitors patients on long treatment, arranging for reviews and prescribing appropriate medication befitting the condition and nature of illness until treatment is completed (i.e TB).
\nTreats and manages HIV\/AIDS patients by counselling them and prescribing appropriate ARVs and drugs, treating opportunistic infections and illness.
\nGives medical treatment including psychotherapy, counselling and general advice to patients to achieve health care satisfaction in consultation with senior consultants.
\nContributes to ensure that accurate and up-to- date patients records are maintained for members of staff, students and members of the public.

\nOrganises, coordinates and supervises occasional health checks among the willing stakeholders, community members of the public including students to ascertain the prevalence of common diseases.
\nDevelops and implements establishment and maintenance of workplace HIV\/AIDS programmes and coordinates Voluntary Counselling and Treating (VCT) sessions.
\nLiaises with fellow medical practitioners within and outside Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre for the purpose of being abreast with the latest developments in the Medical health care field and benchmark the operations of the clinic with the best comparable institution in the market.
\nPrepares and submits periodic reports Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Reports) on the performance of the Clinical activities and specific health care issues impacting on patients, highlighting activities, statistics, problems encountered and recommendations for information and Management decision.
\nPerforms other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
\nThe General Medical Officer will report to the Centre Manager of the Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre.
\nQualifications and Experience:
\nGrade 12 Twelve Certificate
\nDegree in Medicine (MB ChB)
\nValid HPCZ practicing License
\nEXPERIENCE
\nA minimum of 5 years working experience as general medical officer in a busy hospital.
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 LABORATORY SCIENTIST AT APEX MEDICAL AND DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE
\nJOB PURPOSE
\nThe Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and procedures accurately and efficiently to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions. The Laboratory Scientist will adhere to established protocols, quality control measures, and safety guidelines, thus contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES
\nSpecimen Handling and Processing:
\nReceive, label, and process various clinical specimens (e.g., blood, urine, tissue, swabs) according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
\nEnsure proper storage and disposal of specimens.
\nPrepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and staining.
\nMaintain accurate records of specimen collection, processing, and storage.
\nPerforming Laboratory Tests:
\nPerform routine and specialized laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and blood transfusion, as assigned and trained.
\nOperate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
\nFollow established quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
\nTroubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and report more complex issues to senior staff.
\nQuality Control and Assurance:
\nPerform daily, weekly, and monthly quality control procedures as per laboratory protocols.
\nMonitor quality control results and take appropriate action when results are outside acceptable limits, documenting any corrective actions taken.
\nParticipate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
\nData Management and Reporting:
\nAccurately record and document all test results, quality control data, and equipment maintenance activities in the appropriate logbooks and information systems (potentially electronic and paper-based).
\nAssist in the preparation of laboratory reports.
\nEnsure confidentiality of patient information.
\nSafety and Compliance:
\nAdhere to all laboratory safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
\nFollow proper procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous materials and\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 biological waste.
\nMaintain a clean and organized work area.
\nReport any safety hazards or incidents to senior staff immediately.
\nEquipment Maintenance:
\nPerform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as per established schedules and manufacturer guidelines.
\nClean and disinfect equipment regularly.
\nReport any equipment malfunctions or need for repair to the appropriate personnel.
\nInventory Management:
\nAssist in monitoring and maintaining adequate levels of laboratory reagents, consumables, and supplies.
\nInform senior staff when stock levels are low.
\nAssist in receiving and storing new supplies.
\nCommunication and Collaboration:
\nCommunicate effectively with other laboratory staff, medical personnel, and patients (when necessary) in a professional and courteous manner.
\nParticipate in laboratory meetings and training sessions.
\nCollaborate with other team members to ensure efficient laboratory operation
\nThe Laboratory Scientist will report to the Centre Manager of the Apex Medical and Diagnostic Centre.
\nQualifications and Experience:
\nGrade 12 Twelve Certificate
\nBachelor\u2019s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a similar field from a recognized institution.
\nRegistration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) is mandatory.
\nFamiliarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) is an advantage.
\nKnowledge of quality control and quality assurance principles.
\nProficiency in performing a range of laboratory tests.
\nEXPERIENCE
\nTwo (2) years of relevant experience working as a Laboratory Scientist, preferably in a hospital setting.
