\nB. The Role in Context\u00a0
\nGreenCo seeks a highly motivated Operations Officer to lead operational engagement with electricity off-takers and ZESCO. The role ensures reliable power supply, optimised customer load profiles, and smooth grid interface management across Zambia.\u00a0The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in electrical engineering, a solid understanding of Zambia\u2019s transmission and distribution systems\u2014including substations and metering\u2014and the ability to manage field operations and stakeholder relationships with agility and precision.
\nKey duties:\u00a0
\n1. Operational Support & Customer Service<\/p>\n
Serve as GreenCo\u2019s primary technical contact for off-takers and IPPs.
\nAct as first responder to customer-reported outages and coordinate fault resolution with ZESCO and internal teams.
\nAddress customer operational queries related to metering, billing, and load variability.
\nUnderstand customer production cycles and support demand-side management to improve cost-effectiveness.<\/p>\n
2. Grid Coordination & ZESCO Liaison<\/p>\n
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ZESCO infrastructure, substation topology, and load constraints.
\nLiaise with ZESCO for continuity of supply, planned outages, energization, and fault recovery.
\nBuild and manage strong working relationships with ZESCO personnel at control centers and escalate grid issues when needed.<\/p>\n
3. Outage Management & Reliability Monitoring<\/p>\n
Lead on-ground coordination during faults, interruptions, and planned outages.
\nMonitor and log ZESCO\u2019s response timelines, escalate delays, and drive service restoration.
\nCollaborate with ZESCO to resolve recurring reliability concerns and support technical fixes.<\/p>\n
4. Load Forecasting & Energy Optimization<\/p>\n
Analyze load trends using historical and real-time data to identify optimization opportunities.
\nAlign customer forecasts with GreenCo\u2019s trading and nomination schedules.
\nSupport implementation of energy efficiency and peak-load reduction strategies.<\/p>\n
5. Technical Infrastructure & System Improvements<\/p>\n
Assess and recommend upgrades to client connections (e.g., feeder configurations, SCADA integration).
\nCoordinate installation and maintenance of smart or check meters to enhance data transparency and billing accuracy.
\nEvaluate direct feeder connections for future clients to improve reliability.
\nSupport system fixes in collaboration with ZESCO and manage cost-sharing discussions as needed.<\/p>\n
6. Metering & Data Integrity<\/p>\n
Oversee customer metering setup, validation, and calibration in collaboration with ZESCO.
\nInvestigate metering discrepancies and ensure accurate data for settlements.<\/p>\n
7. New Customer Onboarding<\/p>\n
Coordinate technical onboarding of new sites, including compatibility checks, energization protocols, and operational handovers.
\nEnsure all procedural and technical readiness for supply commencement.<\/p>\n
8. Operational Intelligence & Reporting<\/p>\n
Gather field-level intelligence on grid constraints and provide insights for system improvements.
\nMaintain detailed logs and performance data for outages, ZESCO interactions, and fault events.
\nContribute to operational reports, KPI reviews, and lessons-learned exercises.<\/p>\n
9. Regulatory & Market Support<\/p>\n
Provide technical input for regulatory compliance, filings, and bilateral grid arrangements.
\nRepresent GreenCo in grid coordination forums and support open access market implementation.<\/p>\n
And any other related assignments, as directed by management from time to time.

\nC. Qualifications and Requirements
\nThe Operations Officer \u2013 Customer Service will be expected to bring a combination of the following experience, personal attributes and qualifications:<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
\nMinimum 3 years\u2019 experience in utility-scale or industrial power systems in Zambia.
\nFamiliarity with ZESCO operations, including: Transmission and distribution substations (132kV, 88kV, 33kV, 11kV) ; Switching protocols, maintenance coordination, and fault resolution ; Load flow analysis and substation configurations; Experience in mining, industrial or large-scale energy operations is an advantage.
\nValid driver\u2019s licence and willingness to travel regularly.<\/p>\n
