Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) is a nationally registered NGO working with development projects within the field of education, health, agriculture and other poverty alleviation programmes. Projects are carried out in all the provinces of Zambia reaching over 1 million people. Key funding partners include the Government of Zambia, national and international development organisations (USAID, EU, Global Fund, WFP and more) as well as private sector organisations.
\nDAPP in Zambia is looking to engage a competent Driver for DAPP College of Education.
\nThe position will be based in Mkushi.
\nJob Summary:
\nTo drive institutional vehicles and ensure that they are in good condition at all times. The Driver will also take students on study trips and placement of students for teaching practice.
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Main roles and responsibilities:
\n(a)\u00a0\u00a0 Conversant with the operations mechanism of light vehicles and passenger buses; and ensuring that they are in road worthy condition, perfect state of cleanliness, insured and with valid road tax, etc., before they are used; and that they are driven on official duties only.
\n(b)\u00a0\u00a0 Strictly observes all road signage and traffic rules and laws at all times.
\n(c)\u00a0\u00a0 Performs routine checks of oil, fuel, battery, and clutch fluid and water levels in the radiator every day.
\n(d)\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures that all motor vehicle tools and accessories (e.g. spare wheel, jack, spanners, triangles, fire extinguishers, first aid box etc.) are in place and in good working condition at the beginning and end of each day.
\n(e)\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures that the assigned vehicle is kept clean at all times by washing both the interior and exterior parts of the vehicle.
\n(f)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Reports any mechanical\/electrical fault\/maintenance requirements to the Supervisor for timely rectification of the fault(s).
\n(g)\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures that the assigned vehicle is serviced within schedule by reporting the mileage to the supervisor on time.
\n(h)\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures that passengers take safety precautions, such as wearing of safety belts before any journey begins.
\n(i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures that every journey, fuelling\/refuelling are recorded in the Motor Vehicle Log Book and signed off.
\n(j)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Delivers materials and personnel to instructed destinations, ensuring safety at all times.
\n(k)\u00a0\u00a0 Ensures security of the vehicle at all times and that the vehicle is parked only in a secured place when not in use.
\n(l)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Conducts a weekly checklist of the vehicle condition and submits to the Supervisor for review.
\n(m) Takes students on education tours in and out of country.
\n(n)\u00a0\u00a0 Reports any instance of mishap or accident to the Supervisor for timely action.
\n(o)\u00a0\u00a0 Performs routine office errands as assigned.
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Qualifications:
\n(a)\u00a0\u00a0 Completion of Grade 12 level of Education.
\n(b)\u00a0\u00a0 Qualification in Transport and Logistics Management will be an added advantage.
\n(c)\u00a0\u00a0 Driving in SADC countries will be an added advantage.
\n(d)\u00a0\u00a0 PSV Drivers\u2019 licence with eligibility to drive buses carrying 69 passengers.
\n(e)\u00a0\u00a0 Valid Police Clearance Report.
\n(f)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Knowledge of basic mechanics.
\n(g)\u00a0\u00a0 3 years\u2019 experience working as a driver preferably in a Non- Governmental Organisation, Government institution.
\n(h)\u00a0\u00a0 Experience in providing administrative assistance to a development project.
\n(i)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excellent knowledge of traffic rules and road laws of Zambia.
\n(j)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Basic computer knowledge will be an added advantage.
\n(k)\u00a0\u00a0 Academic\/professional qualifications must be verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
