\nOpportunity
\nAs a Senior Engineering and Construction Manager with a passion for delivering stakeholder-centered solutions and a mindset that embraces innovation, you will play a critical leadership role in driving the company\u2019s engineering and construction initiatives across Zambia and the region. You\u2019ll be part of a dedicated, forward-thinking team that values integrity, excellence, and impact.
\nIn this role, you will provide strategic direction and hands-on oversight for all infrastructure and construction activities \u2013 ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full compliance with Zambian regulatory standards. Your work will uphold the highest benchmarks of quality, safety, and sustainability.
\nYou will also work closely with regulatory authorities, local communities, and key stakeholders to ensure each project is executed seamlessly, responsibly, and in a way that delivers lasting value.
\nWhat You\u2019ll Do
\nStrategic Leadership & Planning<\/p>\n
Lead the development and implementation of the company\u2019s engineering and construction strategy in Zambia and the region.
\nOversee feasibility studies, investment planning, and technical due diligence for capital projects.
\nAlign engineering and construction operations with national development goals, environmental regulations, and company objectives.
\nIdentify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize their impact on the project<\/p>\n
Project Development & Execution<\/p>\n
Direct all phases of project lifecycle: concept design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
\nSupervise large-scale projects including real estate, commercial, civil, energy, and industrial infrastructure.
\nProvide technical guidance and support to the project team, resolving complex engineering challenges and ensuring the effective application of engineering principles.
\nDrive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the construction process, seeking opportunities to optimize efficiency and enhance project outcomes.
\nChampion the implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within projects, ensuring its effective integration into the construction process.
\nEnsure all projects adhere to NCC (National Council for Construction) and ERB (Engineering Registration Board) guidelines and standards.
\nManage construction contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with their terms and conditions.<\/p>\n
Regulatory & Environmental Compliance<\/p>\n
Engage proactively with local and national authorities such as ZEMA, WARMA, ZESCO, and local councils to secure necessary permits and approvals.
\nEnsure compliance with Zambian construction laws, occupational health and safety regulations, and environmental protection standards.
\nFinancial Oversight & Cost Management
\nLead budgeting, cost estimation, value engineering, and financial performance monitoring for all capital works.
\nEvaluate contractor bids, negotiate contracts, and ensure transparent procurement in line with ZPPA (Zambia Public Procurement Authority) standards where applicable.<\/p>\n
Team Leadership & Capacity Building<\/p>\n
Ensure that staff members have the necessary skills and training to perform their roles effectively, providing opportunities for professional development.
\nLead, mentor, and build the capacity of multidisciplinary teams including civil, electrical, and mechanical engineers, project managers, and technicians.
\nFoster local talent development through mentorship, skills transfer, and partnerships with Zambian institutions.
\nPromote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
Stakeholder Engagement<\/p>\n
Represent the company in meetings with clients, partners, government officials, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders.
\nDrive collaboration with local contractors, suppliers, consultants, and regulators to ensure smooth project execution.
\nPrepare and assist the Chief Executive Officer to present reports to the Board, investors, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Quality Control and Safety<\/p>\n
Implement and enforce quality control measures and safety protocols to ensure that construction work meets the required standards and adheres to all relevant regulations.<\/p>\n
Who You Are<\/p>\n
Qualifications: Bachelor\u2019s degree in Civil\/Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master\u2019s degree or MBA is an advantage).
\nExperience: Minimum of 7 years\u2019 experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role managing complex infrastructure or construction projects in Zambia or the region.
\nManagerial disposition: High-integrity and results-driven strategic thinker with strong financial and contractual acumen.
\nKnowledgeable: In-depth knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and safety standards, strong grasp of local regulatory frameworks (NCC, ERB, ZEMA, ZPPA, etc.), and deep understanding of the Zambian construction and engineering environment
\nSelf Starter: Proactive and self-driven.
\nTech Savvy: Proficient with design\/modelling and project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, etc.) and familiarity with BIM and other relevant technologies; eager to learn new tools.
\nTeam Player & Excellent Communicator: Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, writing, and presentation skills.
\nCurious & Bold: Embraces innovation, asks questions, and challenges norms.
\nCustomer Centric: Understands the importance of client relationships and reliable delivery.
\nFlexible: Frequent travel to project sites across Zambia, occasional travel within the region or abroad for strategic partnerships or technical collaboration, and willingness to engage in both corporate and on-the-ground operational environments.
\nCertification: EIZ and ERB registration a must.<\/p>\n
