Our client, an NGO that works tirelessly across developing nations to strengthen education systems, ensuring access, equity, and excellence in learning for all is looking to hire an Accountant to join their team. The accountant will ensure the bookkeeping is compliant with the local and international standards of the organization.
\nKey Tasks and Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Record all financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
\nReview all the payment requests for compliance and accuracy.
\nConduct payroll and statutory deductions review.
\nMaintain ledgers, journals, and other accounting records.
\nContribute to financial planning.
\nMonitor actual spending against budgets and report any variances.
\nSupport Project Coordinators in budget monitoring for the respective programs\/projects.
\nEnsure expenses are reviewed, corrected if needed and are coded to the correct donor\/project\/account.
\nEnsure compliance with donor rules and audit requirements.
\nEnsure timely filing of taxes, withholding, and other statutory returns.
\nGenerate reports and assist with data analysis as needed (SQL).
\nEnsure funds transfers\/requests from head office.
\nConduct VAT and vendor reconciliations.
\nPrepare donor financial reports.
\nFollow internal financial policies and procedures.
\nSupport the onboarding of new staff on financial procedures and donor guidelines.
\nAlert management on any suspected irregularities or risks.
\nSupport improvements to financial systems and controls.<\/p>\n
Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:<\/p>\n
Must have a minimum of a bachelor\u2019s degree in accounting or finance.
\nMust be registered with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
\nMust have proven experience (5\u20137 years) as an accountant.
\nShould have a strong understanding of accounting principles (IFRS).
\nMust be proficient in accounting software (e.g., Navision).
\nMust have knowledge of advanced MS Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
\nExcellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
\nStrong organizational and time management abilities.
\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.
\nMust be fluent in English.
\nShould have experience in a non-profit organization.<\/p>\n
