The Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) is a Zambian think tank of international repute, renowned for its policy analysis, research, dialogue facilitation, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives. As a key player in socio-economic policy discourse, ZIPAR seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and experienced Business Development Manager to drive commercial engagement, foster long-term collaborations, and enhance financial sustainability.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n1. Strategy and Commercial Growth<\/p>\n
Lead the commercialisation of ZIPAR\u2019s services in alignment with the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan.
\nDevelop and implement a robust business development strategy, including annual work plans with clear revenue targets.
\nProactively identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and funding streams.
\nMaintain and expand ZIPAR\u2019s business portfolio, ensuring sustained revenue growth.<\/p>\n
2. Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management<\/p>\n
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential partners (government, private sector, NGOs, cooperating partners, and other international organisations).
\nRepresent ZIPAR at meetings, conferences, and networking events to enhance visibility and engagement.
\nConduct stakeholder surveys to assess needs, align services, and drive institutional innovation.
\nMaintain a comprehensive database of partners and execute targeted outreach.<\/p>\n
3. Business Proposals and Contract Management<\/p>\n
Lead the preparation of high-quality bid documents (expressions of interest, technical and financial proposals).
\nOversee contract negotiations, ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and internal policies.
\nEnsure smooth handover of new clients to project managers for seamless service delivery.<\/p>\n
4. Client Experience and Operational Excellence<\/p>\n
Deliver exceptional client service, ensuring needs are met or exceeded.
\nDesign and implement efficient business processes to enhance client engagement and satisfaction.
\nResolve disputes and client complaints effectively, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes.<\/p>\n
5. Compliance and Performance Tracking<\/p>\n
Ensure all business activities adhere to legal, ethical, and organisational standards.
\nMaintain accurate records of business development contributions for performance evaluation.
\nSupport the Executive Director with additional duties as required.<\/p>\n

Required Attributes and Competences<\/p>\n
\u00a0Knowledge of ZIPAR\u2019s core business;
\nGood grasp of contemporary social and economic development policies and issues;
\nCapable of undertaking typical policy analyses and research;
\nExperience with preparation of bids (at least four successful project bids)
\nComputer literacy \u2013 good Microsoft Office suite with MS Project competence;
\nProven experience in business development, partnerships, or revenue generation (preferably in research, policy, or consulting).
\nStrong networking, negotiation, and proposal-writing skills.
\nEntrepreneurial mindset with a track record of achieving revenue targets.
\nExcellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking skills.
\nAttention to detail and ability to work under pressure;
\nFluency in the English language.<\/p>\n
Qualifications and work experience<\/p>\n
\u00a0 A Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Business related studies, Economics or Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), ACCCA, Certified Accountancy (CA)
\n\u00a0 A Master\u2019s Degree, i.e., Economics, Commerce, Marketing or MBA, is preferred
\n\u00a0 \u00a0At least Five (5) years of work experience in Business Development; and
\n\u00a0 At least three (3) years of work experience in a research or related organisation;<\/p>\n
