Mununshi Fruit Company Limited is an enterprise based in Mwense District, Luapula Province. The Company cultivates, processes and markets tropical fruits, primarily bananas, for both domestic and export markets. Originally developed as an agricultural project, Mununshi was revitalized under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) to advance rural development, food security and job creation through agro-industrial growth. It aims to serve as a model for sustainable and inclusive commercial fruit farming in Zambia.
\nThe Company is looking to fill the following position:
\nSENIOR ACCOUNTANT
\nRole Overview:
\nThe Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the Company\u2019s financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance and the implementation of effective internal controls. The role includes managing budgeting and forecasting processes, monitoring cash flow, coordinating audits and supporting strategic financial planning to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
\nKEY RESULT AREAS
\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Financial Management and Reporting<\/p>\n
Undertakes financial transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
\nPrepares and analyses monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and forecasts for the Company.
\nMaintains the general ledger, performs reconciliations, and ensures accurate expense allocations.
\nReviews accounting records, processes supplier invoices, and monitors cash flow projections.
\nEnsures timely financial reporting to the Board and relevant stakeholders.
\nMaintains comprehensive financial records in line with governance frameworks.<\/p>\n
2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Budgeting and Financial Planning<\/p>\n
Participates in the preparation and management of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
\nMonitors budget performance, analyses variances, and recommends cost control interventions.
\nSupports the development and implementation of financial policies and budget frameworks to promote efficiency and accountability.<\/p>\n
3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compliance and Statutory Reporting<\/p>\n
Ensures compliance with tax laws, regulatory requirements, and international accounting standards.
\nPrepares and submits VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and other statutory returns within prescribed deadlines.
\nEnsures adherence to obligations under NAPSA, NHIMA, Workers\u2019 Compensation, ZRA, and applicable local authorities.
\nMaintains working relationships with tax authorities, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
\nSupports internal and external audits by compiling required documentation and responding to audit queries.<\/p>\n
4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Internal Controls and Financial Risk Management<\/p>\n
Undertakes implementation of internal financial controls to safeguard company assets.
\nIdentifies financial risks and proposes mitigation strategies.
\nSupports the establishment of risk management frameworks and promotes financial integrity and fraud prevention.<\/p>\n
5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cash Flow and Treasury Management<\/p>\n
Undertakes cash flow planning to ensure adequate operational liquidity.
\nDevelops and executes effective treasury and working capital management strategies.
\nOptimizes financial resources through strategic investments and cost-saving initiatives.
\nMaintains strong relationships with banks and financial institutions.<\/p>\n
6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stakeholder Engagement and Strategic Support<\/p>\n
Maintains strong professional relationships with banks, financial institutions, auditors, and regulators.
\nProvides financial insights to support executive leadership in strategic decision-making.
\nRepresents the Finance Department in cross-functional business initiatives.
\nEnsures transparent and timely financial communication with investors and Board members.<\/p>\n
7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Team Leadership and Development<\/p>\n
Mentors, trains, and supports junior finance staff to build internal capacity.
\nConducts performance reviews and identifies training needs to promote continuous learning.
\nFosters a culture of collaboration and professionalism within the Finance Department and across functions.<\/p>\n
8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Operational and Strategic Support<\/p>\n
Liaises with implementing stakeholders to facilitate fund disbursement and maintain financial oversight.
\nSupports operational teams with financial insights to enhance decision-making and performance.
\nUndertakes additional duties as delegated to support the Company\u2019s financial and strategic objectives.<\/p>\n
Minimum Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
Grade 12 School Certificate
\nBachelor\u2019s Degree finance, accounting and\/or equivalent Professional Qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CA Zambia,
\nProfessional Membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountant (ZICA)
\nMinimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.<\/p>\n
