About the Human Rights Commission
\nThe Human Rights Commission (\u201cthe Commission\u201d) is a National Human Rights Institution established under Article 230 of the Constitution of Zambia. The Commission has the constitutional mandate to uphold and protect the Bill of Rights. The Commission is seeking applications from suitably qualified external candidates for the position of\u00a0Legal Counsel.
\nThe Main Purpose of the Role
\nTo undertake the provision of legal services and enforcement of compliance with the Commission\u2019s decisions to ensure that the Commission operates within the confines of the Law and redress human rights violations.
\nMain Duties and Responsibilities
\nThe successful candidate will report to the Manager-Compliance and Legal Services and will be responsible for:<\/p>\n
Timely drafting of legal opinions to facilitate investigations and compliance with the law.
\nTimely preparation of contracts and other legal documents to ensure compliance with the law and safeguard the interests of the Commission.
\nUndertaking effective litigation involving the Commission to ensure the realisation of its interests.
\nUndertaking effective mediation between parties to facilitate redress of human rights complaints.
\nEffectively prosecuting offences under the Act to enforce compliance with human rights standards.<\/p>\n
Minimum Qualifications and Experience<\/p>\n
Must have a full Grade 12 School Certificate with 5 \u2018O\u2019 Level credits or better.
\nMust have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree and a valid practising certificate.
\nMust have a minimum of three (3) years post-bar admission experience.<\/p>\n
