This senior role ensures that all installations, calibrations, loop checks, and commissioning activities are executed to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance, in accordance with SANS requirements, OEM specifications, and project engineering deliverables. Acting as the technical authority and primary point of coordination, the Superintendent drives strategic planning, cross-discipline collaboration, and resource management to deliver world-class instrumentation works on time and within budget.<br \/>\nMinimum Qualifications &amp; Requirements<br \/>\nEducation &amp; Certification:<br \/>\nGrade 12 Certificate with Mathematics and Science.<br \/>\nRed Seal Trade Test Certificate in Instrumentation (Section 13 or Section 26D) \u2013 South Africa.<br \/>\nRegistration or eligibility for registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) advantageous.<br \/>\nExperience:<br \/>\nMinimum 8 years\u2019 industrial instrumentation experience (mining, processing, petrochemical), with at least 3 years in a superintendent or senior supervisory capacity.<br \/>\nProven track record in:<br \/>\nSmart and conventional instrumentation systems.<br \/>\nFieldbus and 4\u201320 mA loop systems.<br \/>\nPLC and DCS interface management.<br \/>\nHazardous area installations (Ex d, Ex i, etc.).<br \/>\nWorking knowledge of SANS 10142-1, SANS 60079, and OEM specifications.<br \/>\nKey Responsibilities<br \/>\nProvide strategic leadership for all field instrumentation activities, ensuring alignment with project milestones, cost controls, and safety objectives.<br \/>\nApprove and oversee installation of field instruments (flow, pressure, level, temperature, etc.) in compliance with SANS standards and engineering design.<br \/>\nManage and allocate resources, including instrumentation teams, subcontractors, tools, and equipment, to optimise productivity and quality.<br \/>\nDirect installation, calibration, loop checking, functional testing, and final commissioning activities, ensuring readiness for system handover.<br \/>\nServe as the technical authority for hazardous area works, ensuring full compliance with SANS 60079 (Explosive Atmospheres) and statutory requirements.<br \/>\nConduct and sign off quality inspections, FAT\/SAT results, and commissioning documentation.<br \/>\nCoordinate with electrical, mechanical, and automation teams to integrate instrumentation systems seamlessly.<br \/>\nInterpret and validate P&amp;IDs, loop diagrams, instrument index, cable schedules, and I\/O lists.<br \/>\nEnforce strict compliance with permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and safety protocols.<br \/>\nMaintain detailed progress tracking, punch lists, as-built records, and QA\/QC documentation.<br \/>\nDevelop and mentor artisans, technicians, and junior engineers to elevate technical capabilities and safety culture.<br \/>\nProvide daily progress reports, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to project leadership.<br \/>\nSkills &amp; Competencies<br \/>\nExpert knowledge of instrumentation standards, hazardous area compliance, and control system integration.<br \/>\nAdvanced ability to interpret and validate engineering documentation.<br \/>\nStrong leadership, planning, and conflict-resolution skills.<br \/>\nDemonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.<br \/>\nProficiency with calibration tools, HART communicators, and process simulators.<br \/>\nExcellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English.<br \/>\nComputer literacy in MS Office and instrumentation databases.<br \/>\nWorking Conditions<br \/>\nSite-based position at a remote mining project location.<br \/>\nMay require working at heights, in confined spaces, or in hazardous environments.<br \/>\nExposure to noise, dust, and extreme weather conditions.<br \/>\nExtended working hours or shift work to meet project deadlines.<br \/>\nApplication Requirements<br \/>\nPlease submit:<br \/>\nUpdated CV with contactable references.<br \/>\nCertified Trade or National Diploma Certificate.<br \/>\nRed Seal Trade Test (Instrumentation Mechanician).<br \/>\nHazardous Area Training Certificate (if available).<br \/>\nValid Passport \/ NRC.<br \/>\nPolice Clearance and Medical Fitness Certificate.<br \/>\nSharing is Caring!
