\nPosition: Medical Officer
\nLocation: Premium Medical Services Limited (PMSL) Lusaka
\nReports to: Head Medical Services
\nJob Overview:
\nThe\u00a0Medical Officer\u00a0will be responsible for delivering high-quality medical care to patients, managing both routine and emergency medical conditions. You will play a key role in diagnosing and treating a wide range of illnesses, formulating treatment plans, and ensuring the delivery of top-tier healthcare services. Additionally, you will supervise, mentor, and train nursing staff to maintain high clinical standards and enhance patient care.
\nMain Duties and Responsibilities:
\nA. Patient Care and Medical Management:<\/p>\n
Provide High-Standard Medical Care: Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment to patients. Ensure care meets the highest clinical standards.
\nFormulate Diagnoses and Treatment Plans: Competently diagnose medical conditions and develop effective treatment plans aimed at improving patient health, well-being, and quality of life.
\nManage Medical Conditions: Oversee the management of both acute and chronic medical conditions, including prescribing medications and interventions.
\nWard Rounds: Conduct daily ward rounds, monitor patient progress, review treatment plans, and adjust them as needed to ensure optimal care.<\/p>\n
B. Supervision and Staff Development:<\/p>\n
Supervise and Teach Staff: Effectively supervise nursing and paramedical staff, providing ongoing teaching, guidance, and clinical skills development.
\nMentorship and Skill Transfer: Mentor junior staff by sharing knowledge and clinical insights to foster professional growth and enhance care standards.
\nCollaboration with Healthcare Team: Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure an integrated approach to patient care.<\/p>\n
C. Emergency and On-Call Duties:<\/p>\n
On-Call Obligations: Fulfill on-call duties promptly, managing medical emergencies and performing life-saving interventions as necessary.
\nEmergency Response: Provide rapid decision-making and coordination with the healthcare team to manage critical patient situations effectively.<\/p>\n
D. Patient Communication and Collaboration:<\/p>\n
Effective Communication with Patients: Establish trusting relationships with patients, offering clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment plans, and health education.
\nCollaborate with Colleagues: Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure a holistic and patient-centered approach to care.
\nPatient Focus: Prioritize patient well-being by addressing their concerns promptly and compassionately.<\/p>\n
E. Administrative and Documentation Responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Accurate Documentation: Ensure thorough documentation of patient interactions, diagnoses, treatments, and progress notes, adhering to hospital protocols and legal requirements.
\nReporting and Handover: Provide comprehensive monthly reports to oncoming medical staff to ensure continuity of care for patients.<\/p>\n
Any Other Lawful Responsibilities:\u00a0Carry out any other duties assigned by management to support the efficient operation of the facility and enhance patient care.
\nQualifications
\nBachelor\u2019s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB\/MBBS) or equivalent.
\nPostgraduate qualification in Public Health, Health Management, or related field is an added advantage. Valid practicing license with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) Certification in leadership, hospital management, or healthcare administration is an added advantage.
\nExperience<\/p>\n
5 \u2013 8 years\u2019 post-qualification experience \u2013 senior hospital management or clinical leadership role will be an added advantage.
\nProven experience in hospital operations management, including patient care, staff supervision, and departmental coordination.
\nExperience in HR processes such as disciplinary management.
\nStrong background in clinical governance, compliance, and quality assurance.
\nExperience in budget management, report writing, procurement of medical supplies, and pharmaceutical oversight.
\nEvidence of involvement in staff training, mentoring, and capacity-building initiatives.<\/p>\n
Knowledge & Skills<\/p>\n
In-depth knowledge of hospital operations, clinical protocols, and healthcare systems.
\nExcellent leadership and people-management skills, with ability to motivate and inspire teams.
\nStrong decision-making, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution abilities.
\nGood financial acumen and ability to manage budgets effectively.
\nStrong negotiation, networking, and relationship-building skills with medical peers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
\nExcellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
\nProficiency in healthcare information systems and basic IT tools (MS Office, hospital management software).<\/p>\n
