Position Summary:
\nTo attend day-to-day operations of the piggery and ensure that its clean all the times. Also, to develop and implement management strategies to optimize production and reduce costs. Plan breeding cycles, feeding schedules, and health protocols.
\nMain Accountabilities<\/p>\n
To oversee overall operations at the piggery & ensure that all pigs are health and well taken of.
\nTo keep accurate records of the piggery operations (herd performance, breeding, and health)
\nTo perform excellent Husbandry skills.
\nTo plan, schedule, and review workload and manpower to make sure targets are being met.
\nTo oversee feeding, breeding, and farrowing activities.<\/p>\n
Manage the farrowing as below:<\/p>\n
Breeding.
\nBreeder of breeder\u2019s selection.
\nFarrowing
\nReplacement stock selection
\nEnsure that piglet mortality reduction while maximizing farrowing percentage.<\/p>\n
Feed Management as below:<\/p>\n
Ensure that feed wastage is reduced.
\nPerformance monitoring of fatteners for daily gains, fattening pig days.
\nOrganizations of the ingredients, ready -made feed.
\nFeed formulations and compounding rations.
\nAlways estimate feed requirements.<\/p>\n
Other Duties Includes<\/p>\n
Ensuring pigs have access to food and water
\nWalking through the piggery to identify sick or injured birds
\nUtilizing proper biosecurity standards when entering and exiting houses
\nMaintaining high standards of animal welfare
\nConducting maintenance on the house and watering\/heating system as needed
\nCleaning piggery
\nSpraying piggery houses with disinfectants and vaccines
\nInspecting piggery for diseases and removing weak and ill from the flock
\nAny other responsibilities as assigned<\/p>\n
Key Requirements<\/p>\n
Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
\nCertificate in Animal Science, Livestock Production, or related field
\nMinimum 2 years hands-on experience in poultry
\nStrong knowledge of swine diseases, vaccinations, and feeding requirements
\nExcellent leadership, communication, and record-keeping skills
\nFamiliarity with biosecurity and animal welfare regulations
\nAbility to work under pressure with very minimal supervision but meeting the targets
\nPrevious Pig farm experience and pig farm working knowledge
\nShould be able to organize, supervise and manage the labour force effectively so as to extract maximum efficiency out of them.
\nPreferably the prospective should be from Western Province<\/p>\n
