Eastern Tropical Fruit Company Limited (ETF) is jointly owned by Zambia Fruit Company and Vitaplus Foods Limited, under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The Company operates a hybrid fruit and vegetable processing plant located in Katete District, Eastern Province of Zambia.
\nRole Overview:
\nThe Senior Health and Safety Officer is responsible for developing, monitoring, maintaining, and implementing all statutory safety and health functions at the factory. This role will ensure the company operates in full compliance with national safety regulations and best practices, promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
\nKey Roles and Responsibilities:
\nPolicy and Program Development:<\/p>\n
Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to minimize workplace risks and hazards.
\nConduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses for all factory operations.
\nStay up-to-date with national health and safety legislation and ensure the company\u2019s compliance.<\/p>\n
Training and Awareness:<\/p>\n
Provide health and safety training to all employees, including new hire orientation and ongoing safety refreshers.
\nLead safety campaigns and initiatives to promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
\nEnsure all staff are properly trained on the use of safety equipment and emergency procedures.<\/p>\n
Inspection and Reporting:<\/p>\n
Conduct regular factory inspections and audits to identify potential safety hazards and non-compliance issues.
\nInvestigate all workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
\nMaintain accurate records of all safety inspections, incidents, and training, and prepare detailed reports for management and regulatory bodies.<\/p>\n
Emergency Preparedness:<\/p>\n
Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire safety, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
\nCoordinate and lead regular emergency drills to ensure all staff are prepared to respond effectively.<\/p>\n
Minimum Qualifications & Experience<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
\nMinimum 5 years\u2019 industrial health and safety experience, preferably in manufacturing or food processing.
\nProfessional certification in occupational health and safety is desirable.
\nMembership with a recognized professional regulatory body
\nStrong knowledge of Zambian labor laws and health and safety regulations.<\/p>\n
