\nBackground
\nAfrican Parks (AP) is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on responsibility for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. AP manages 23 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
\nJob Overview
\nTo provide support to the Workshop Manager in ensuring Liuwa Plain National Park applies the highest standards in Mechanical services in order to facilitate the implementation of the Conservation Strategy.
\nDuties and responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Inspect motorcycles, and run diagnostics to discover functionality issues
\nCarry out repairs on motorcycles with the aim of maximum quality work.
\nResolve reported issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
\nPerform general maintenance of motorcycles and other equipments like gensets and mechanized systems.
\nOpen a job card for each motorcycle once received in the workshop before working on it and close the job card upon completion of work.
\nProvide advice on proper maintenance and preventive measures to all motorcycle users.
\nKeep work logs and report problems to the senior on duty.
\nAnd any other task at the request of the supervisor.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Required Skills and Competencies<\/p>\n
Strong understanding of how motorcycle engines and components work.
\nAbility to diagnose and repair mechanical issues.
\nUnderstanding of wiring, battery systems, starters, and charging systems.
\nAbility to use multimeters and read wiring diagrams.
\nUse of diagnostic tools and software to identify engine, transmission, or electrical faults
\nKnowledge of carburetors and fuel injection systems.
\nUnderstanding of ignition timing and spark plug function
\nUnderstanding of disc and drum brake systems.
\nAbility to bleed brakes and replace brake pads, rotors, or fluid.
\nPrecision in repairs, especially for safety-critical components like brakes or steering
\nAbility to troubleshoot complex issues that may not be immediately obvious
\nRoutine services: oil changes, brake checks, tire replacement.
\nMajor repairs: engine rebuilds, transmission repairs, suspension work.<\/p>\n
Role requirements<\/p>\n
A high school Certificate
\nA diploma\/certificate is preferred (CAP in automotive mechanics)
\n2 years plus experience as a Motorcycle mechanic.
\nAbility to use various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.) and precision measuring tools (e.g. calipers)
\nAbility to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, plans, etc.
\nA strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
\nRegistered Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)<\/p>\n
