\nBackground
\nAfrican Parks (AP) is a non-profit conservation organisation that takes on responsibility for the long-term management of protected areas in partnership with governments and local communities. AP manages 23 protected areas in 13 countries covering over 20 million hectares in Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
\nJob Overview
\nTo provide support to the Workshop Manager in ensuring Liuwa Plain National Park applies the highest standards in Mechanical services in order to facilitate the implementation of the Conservation Strategy.
\nDuties and responsibilities:<\/p>\n
Inspect vehicles, Machines, engines, transmissions, etc. and run diagnostics to discover functionality issues
\nPerform refurbishment operations (shock absorbers, tires, brake discs and pads, batteries, filters).
\nBuild and assemble engines, gear boxes & diff units or mechanical components for vehicles as needed.
\nCarry out repairs on vehicles and machines with the aim of maximum quality work.
\nResolve reported issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
\nPerform comprehensive maintenance of vehicles, machinery, equipment and mechanical equipment and mechanized systems.
\nClean and apply lubricants to machine components.
\nOpen a job card for each vehicle once received in the workshop or machinery before working on it and close the job card upon completion of work.
\nProvide advice on proper maintenance and preventive measures to machine and Vehicle user.
\nUndertake other assigned tasks (e.g., repair hydraulic systems, paint vehicles, etc.).
\nKeep work logs and report problems.
\nAnd any other task at the request of the supervisor
\nRequired Skills and Competencies
\nAbility to identify complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using diagnostic tools and experience.
\nIn-depth knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, HVAC, and computerized systems.
\nQuickly analyze issues, determine root causes, and implement effective repair solutions.
\nLead and mentor junior mechanics, assign tasks, oversee work quality, and ensure safety procedures are followed.
\nClearly explain technical issues to team members
\nThorough inspections and precision in repairs to prevent oversight and ensure long-term reliability.
\nPrioritize tasks, manage workloads efficiently, and ensure repairs are completed on schedule.
\nProficient in using both traditional tools and modern diagnostic equipment.
\nUnderstand and enforce workplace safety, environmental regulations, and manufacturer standards
\nStay updated with new automotive technologies, tools, and repair procedures through ongoing training.<\/p>\n
Role requirements<\/p>\n
A high school Certificate
\nA diploma\/certificate is preferred (CAP in automotive mechanics)
\n4 years plus experience as a mechanic
\nKnowledge in the field of heavy machinery will be an asset
\nExcellent knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and other engines, machines and systems and their components must be a good DT(diagnostic technician)
\nAbility to use various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.) and precision measuring tools (e.g. calipers)
\nAbility to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, plans, etc.
\nA strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
\nRegistered Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)<\/p>\n
