Job Summary:
\nThe Mechanic & Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles in the fleet are safe, clean, and fully operational, and for managing the drivers to ensure they perform their duties properly. This role combines hands-on mechanical work, supervision, scheduling, record-keeping, and ensuring that client requirements and safety standards are met. The ideal candidate should be technically skilled, have experience with vehicle maintenance, good leadership and communication skills, and able to use computer systems for maintenance tracking and reporting.
\nKey Responsibilities:
\nFleet Maintenance & Repairs
\nPerform or supervise regular inspections of all fleet vehicles to identify mechanical issues, safety risks, or cleanliness concerns.
\nOversee and\/or perform preventive maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires, engine tune-ups, etc.).
\nCoordinate and carry out repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
\nEnsure all buses are maintained in a neat and working condition (cleanliness, functioning lights, seats, etc.).
\nSupervision of Drivers
\nSupervise and manage the day-to-day activities of the drivers.
\nEnsure that drivers are following schedules, routes, safety policies, and company \/ client standards.
\nMonitor driver performance; provide feedback, coaching, and corrective action where necessary.
\nEnsure drivers maintain cleanliness of their vehicles, respect client requirements, and treat passengers or cargo appropriately.
\nWorkshop & Mechanic Team Oversight
\nIf there are multiple mechanics or support staff, assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure work is done efficiently and with quality.
\nMaintain workshop organization, tools, and equipment; ensure that everything needed for maintenance and repair is available and in good condition.
\nRecord Keeping & Reporting
\nKeep accurate records of all maintenance, repair, inspections, and parts usage.
\nUse computer systems\/software to track maintenance schedules, repair history, costs, spare parts inventory, etc.
\nPrepare regular reports for management (and the client, where required) on vehicle status, downtime, maintenance costs, etc.
\nSafety, Quality & Compliance
\nEnsure that all maintenance and repairs meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
\nEnsure vehicles are roadworthy, including brakes, lights, tires, etc., and that all legal inspections\/requirements are met.
\nImplement safety protocols in the workshop and ensure that workshop staff and drivers adhere to them.
\nClient Collaboration
\nLiaise with the client (if any) to understand their expectations and service requirements for vehicle condition, scheduling, etc.
\nRespond to client concerns or requests regarding vehicle condition or driver performance.

\nQualifications & Skills:
\nDiploma \/ Certificate in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
\nValid driver\u2019s license, preferably for buses or heavy vehicles; clean driving record.
\nAtleast 5 years of experience as a mechanic
\nGood knowledge of vehicle systems (engine, brakes, transmission, electrical, hydraulics, etc.).
\nComputer literate: able to use maintenance tracking software, spreadsheets, email, basic office software
\nStrong organizational skills; able to prioritize tasks, manage time, and oversee multiple vehicles and drivers.
\nAttention to quality, safety, and details.
\nDesirable Extras:
\nPrevious experience in a similar supervisory role with buses or\u00a0 fleet vehicles.
\nCertification in fleet management or advanced automotive diagnostics.
\nAbility to plan preventive maintenance schedules.
\nKnowledge of local transport \/ road safety regulations.
\nGood customer service skills.
\nWorking Conditions:
\nWorks partly in the workshop, partly in the field (vehicle inspections, breakdowns).
\nMay need to respond to emergency repairs outside regular hours.
\nExposure to workshop environment: noise, grease, heat, etc.
\nPhysical work: lifting, bending, climbing under vehicles, etc.
