Manage the planning, administrative, and budgetary functions of Library and Information Services<\/p>\n<p>Establish and implement policies and procedures for library and information services<br \/>\nDevelop and oversee convenient and accessible library and information services<br \/>\nEstablish and manage the budget for library and information services, technology, and media<br \/>\nDevelop and manage cost-effective library and information services, technology, and media<br \/>\nOrder materials and maintain records for invoice payments<br \/>\nAnalyze and evaluate the requirements for library and information services, technology, and media<br \/>\nPrepare reports concerning library and information services, technology and media services, resources, and activities<\/p>\n<p>2. Provide effective access to library collections and resources<\/p>\n<p>Develop and maintain policies and procedures for collections management<br \/>\nPerform original cataloguing and classification of print, audio-visual, and electronic resources<br \/>\nDevelop and maintain special indexing systems and files for unique collections<\/p>\n<p>3. Maintain the organization of library materials<\/p>\n<p>Ensure an accurate inventory of resources<br \/>\nEnsure efficient retrieval by users<br \/>\nSearch external database programs for the availability of cataloguing copies<br \/>\nMaintain inventories, compile statistics, and generate reports as necessary<br \/>\nDevelop and maintain cataloguing procedures<br \/>\nDistribute materials for cataloguing<br \/>\nDetermine the type of cataloguing required<br \/>\nEnter cataloguing data into the library\u2019s automated system<br \/>\nProcess resources for shelf placement<br \/>\nFile cards in the shelf list<br \/>\nComplete cataloguing records when only partial copies are available<br \/>\nIndex materials for the pamphlet collection<\/p>\n<p>4. Provide library services in response to the information needs of library users<\/p>\n<p>Address daily on-site inquiries for information.<br \/>\nEducate library users on how to efficiently navigate the Library catalogue, the internet, and other electronic resources.<br \/>\nProvide interlibrary services as needed.<br \/>\nOffer an interlibrary loan service for both books and audiovisual materials while keeping accurate records.<br \/>\nKeep detailed records for the interlibrary loan service.<br \/>\nMaintain circulation files, records, and statistics.<\/p>\n<p>5. Management of Personnel<\/p>\n<p>Ensure the implementation of the University\u2019s human resource policies and procedures when overseeing library staff.<br \/>\nManage staff performance in a manner that aligns with the University\u2019s expectations. Key result areas will be defined, performance objectives established, and performance indicators agreed upon at the start of each financial year.<br \/>\nProvide staff with the necessary support to enable their full contribution to library services and the development of their skills and experience.<br \/>\nFoster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and respect both within the department and in alignment with the University\u2019s Core Values.<br \/>\nEnsure that students are appropriately involved in various decision-making processes within the Library Department.<br \/>\nGuarantee a safe and healthy environment for both staff and students, ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations.<\/p>\n<p>6. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice- Chancellor<br \/>\nQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n<p>Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University<br \/>\nMaster of Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University<br \/>\nPhD (or PhD Candidate) in Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University an added advantage<br \/>\nMinimum three (3) years\u2019 senior-level work experience in a University Library<br \/>\nStrong knowledge of library management systems, digital resources, and emerging technologies<br \/>\nFamiliarity with cataloguing and classification standards<br \/>\nDemonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to motivate and guide a team<br \/>\nMember of the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ) or Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals<\/p>\n<p>COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES<\/p>\n<p>Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and promoting information literacy<br \/>\nDemonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to motivate and guide a team<br \/>\nStrong organizational skills<br \/>\nExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbally and in writing<br \/>\nStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks<br \/>\nExcellent IT skills and proficiency in the use of databases, library software systems and the internet<br \/>\nExcellent Presentation skills<br \/>\nExcellent data analysis skills (including high degree of proficiency in MSExcel)<br \/>\nAbility to assess resources and library needs<br \/>\nAbility and willingness to work, manage and supervise Library operations on an extended hours basis<br \/>\nAbility to work independently<br \/>\nProblem analysis and solving skills<br \/>\nAbility to maintain confidentiality related to sensitive information<br \/>\nDemonstrated commitment to learning and self-development<\/p>\n<p>Sharing is Caring!
