Job Purpose
\nTo support the implementation and enforcement of health and safety policies, procedures, and practices on-site. The Safety Officer works closely with supervisors and workers to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with Zambian safety legislation, client HSE requirements, and best industry standards.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Assist in the implementation of the Project Health & Safety Management Plan
\nSkills training courses<\/p>\n
Monitor compliance with all applicable legislation, such as the Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Act, and client safety procedures<\/p>\n
Conduct daily toolbox talks and pre-task risk assessments with teams<\/p>\n
Perform regular site inspections, audits, and safety observations for compliance<\/p>\n
Monitor high-risk activities, including electrical installations, working at height, lifting operations, and confined space entry<\/p>\n
Ensure that Permit-to-Work systems are followed and documented correctly<\/p>\n
Identify unsafe acts\/conditions and recommend corrective actions<\/p>\n
Participate in incident\/accident investigations and support root cause analysis<\/p>\n
Maintain safety records such as induction registers, inspection reports, and risk assessments<\/p>\n
Report safety statistics to the Safety Manager for daily\/weekly HSE reporting<\/p>\n
Support emergency response preparedness and drills<\/p>\n
Promote a proactive safety culture and positive attitude towards compliance<\/p>\n
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
\nEducation & Certification:<\/p>\n
Grade 12 School Certificate<\/p>\n
Valid Safety Training Certification from an accredited institution (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC, NOSA, or recognized Zambian training bodies)<\/p>\n
First Aid and Fire Safety certification (mandatory)<\/p>\n
Membership with a professional body such as Zambia Institute of Safety Health and Environmental Management (ZISHEM) is an advantage<\/p>\n
Experience:<\/p>\n
Minimum 3\u20135 years\u2019 experience in a Safety Officer role, preferably in mining, construction, or heavy industrial projects<\/p>\n
Experience in Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) environments is an added advantage<\/p>\n
Familiarity with ISO 45001, SANS 10085, and other international HSE standards<\/p>\n
Skills & Competencies:<\/p>\n
Strong knowledge of Zambian and international occupational safety legislation<\/p>\n
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to educate and influence workers<\/p>\n
Competency in identifying hazards and enforcing corrective actions<\/p>\n
Report writing, record keeping, and Microsoft Office proficiency<\/p>\n
High attention to detail and proactive safety awareness<\/p>\n
Working Conditions<\/p>\n
Site-based role in a remote mining environment<\/p>\n
Must be able to work extended hours or shifts based on project demands<\/p>\n
PPE use and compliance with all HSE policies is mandatory<\/p>\n
