\nThe Zambia Daily Mail is a Limited Company wholly owned by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The Company is incorporated under the Companies Act, number 10 of 2017 of the Laws of Zambia. It is one of the leading publishers of daily newspapers in Zambia.
\nThe Company has a vacant position for an Assistant Systems Administrator and is now inviting suitably qualified Zambians to apply and be considered for the position.
\nAn Assistant Systems Administrator will provide critical technical support focussed on network infrastructure, cabling, hardware deployment, wireless connectivity, and day-to-day ICT operations. The role is hands-on and essential to ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient ICT services across the organization.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n\u26ab Network Infrastructure: Install, terminate, and organize network cabling, patch panels, and network points to ensure safe, efficient, and well-structured ICT infrastructure.
\n\u26ab Wireless Deployment: Install, configure, and maintain wireless access points, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize network coverage.
\n\u26ab Connectivity Support: Diagnose and resolve LAN\/WAN issues, cable faults, port problems, and device connectivity challenges.
\n\u26ab Desktop & Hardware Support: Set up, configure, and troubleshoot desktops, laptops, printers, scanners, and peripheral devices.
\n\u26ab User Support: Provide first-line technical support to end-users, including resolving connectivity, hardware, and software issues promptly.
\n\u26ab Hardware Deployment & Relocation: Assist in installing, relocating, and configuring ICT equipment during office moves, expansions, or departmental changes.
\n\u26ab Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine checks on cables, patch panels, access points, switches, and endpoint devices to identify and resolve issues proactively.
\n\u26ab System Maintenance: Assist in installing updates, patches, and security tools on workstations and network devices.
\n\u26ab Data Backup Support: Support regular data backup processes and basic disaster recovery procedures as directed.
\n\u26ab Documentation: Maintain accurate records of network layouts, cabling routes, endpoint configurations, and support activities.
\n\u26ab Collaboration: Work closely with the ICT Manager and Systems Administrator to support infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and new deployments.
\n\u26ab Safety and Compliance: Ensure all ICT installations comply with safety standards and company policies, reducing physical hazards and operational risks.
\nQualifications and Experience Requirements
\n\u2022 Full grade 12 certificates with a minimum of credits in Mathematics and English.
\n\u2022 Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Networks, or a closely related field, with a strong emphasis on practical, hands-on networking, infrastructure support, and hardware maintenance.
\n\u26ab Candidates with a bachelor\u2019s degree and relevant field experience are also encouraged to apply.
\n\u2022 Minimum of 4 years of experience in network support, cabling, hardware deployment, or desktop support.
\nSkills
\n\u2022 Strong knowledge of LAN\/WAN networking concepts and structured cabling standards
\n\u26ab Hands-on experience in cabling, device installation, and troubleshooting
\n\u26ab Excellent hardware and desktop support skills
\n\u2022 Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
\n\u2022 Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment
\nCertifications
\n\u26ab Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent are preferred.
