Through the\u00a0Lobito Corridor Electrification (LCE) initiative, Anzana and ZESCO are establishing a joint-venture distribution company to modernize and expand the grid across North-Western\u00a0Province. The US$300 million investment will enable the rehabilitation and expansion of the\u00a0national electricity network to provide first-time grid-connections for nearly 2 million Zambians\u00a0by 2030, in alignment with the Zambian Government\u2019s goal of universal access to electricity\u00a0for all Zambians. The new utility is targeting the start of construction in the first half of next\u00a0year, enabling phased network upgrades, densification, and new customer connections across\u00a0the region \u2013 starting in Ikelenge and Mwinilunga Districts.<br \/>\nIn parallel, Anzana is advancing a portfolio of generation assets to support long-term system\u00a0resilience, including two utility-scale run-of-river hydropower projects in Northern Province and\u00a0smaller river-based and solar-hybrid projects in North-Western Province. The company also\u00a0operates Zengamina Power Limited in Ikelenge District, the first hydro-powered mini grid in\u00a0Zambia, which has been supplying reliable power for nearly 20 years and now serves close to\u00a02,000 customers. Ongoing investment at Zengamina includes generation expansion, network\u00a0reinforcement, distribution expansion and alignment with the future LCE platform.<br \/>\nAbout the Role<br \/>\nThe Environmental and Social Associate supports the Health, Safety, Environmental and\u00a0Social (HSES) function and ensures that projects comply with the Environmental and Social\u00a0Management System (ESMS) and Health and Safety Management System (HSMS). The role\u00a0involves coordination across internal teams, technical oversight of specialist consultants,\u00a0regulatory engagement, and preparation of E&amp;S documentation needed for development,\u00a0permitting, and implementation.<br \/>\nThe position reports to the Operations and Development Manager and works closely with the\u00a0Corporate HSES team.<br \/>\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities<br \/>\nProject Development &amp; E&amp;S Strategy:<\/p>\n<p>Support the development and implementation of the HSES strategies, policies and\u00a0management systems.<br \/>\nOversee environmental and social risk assessments, ensuring alignment with Zambian\u00a0regulations and international lender standards (IFC, World Bank, AfDB).<br \/>\nIntegrate environmental, social, health, and safety considerations into project planning,\u00a0design, contractor oversight, and operational readiness.<br \/>\nAssist in the preparation of internal technical reports related to environmental and\u00a0social impacts, contributing to strategic decision-making within the company.<br \/>\nContribute to internal technical reports and decision-making documents on E&amp;S risks\u00a0and opportunities.<br \/>\nCoordinate across project teams (development, construction, operations) to ensure\u00a0E&amp;S requirements are fully integrated and implemented.<\/p>\n<p>Consultant Management &amp; Regulatory Liaison:<\/p>\n<p>Manage external consultants delivering ESIAs, environmental studies, biodiversity\u00a0assessments, social baseline work, and land acquisition instruments (LALRP\/RAP).<br \/>\nPrepare ToRs, review deliverables, support contract oversight, and ensure quality and\u00a0compliance of all E&amp;S workstreams.<br \/>\nLiaise with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, donors and local\u00a0communities, to ensure compliance and address concerns<br \/>\nWork closely with project teams to ensure the environmental and social requirements\u00a0are implemented effectively. This includes working with various departments, from\u00a0construction to operations, ensuring the integration of environmental and social\u00a0practices.<br \/>\nOversee effective implementation of stakeholder engagement plans and grievance\u00a0mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p>Monitoring &amp; Reporting<\/p>\n<p>Monitor HSES performance indicators and support data collection across teams and\u00a0contractors.<br \/>\nPrepare internal and external reports on environmental and social performance,\u00a0including KPI updates, compliance documentation, and lender reporting.<br \/>\nMonitor corrective actions and follow up on non-conformances to ensure continual\u00a0improvement.<\/p>\n<p>Training and Awareness:<\/p>\n<p>Support the HSES training program, helping to design and implement training plans\u00a0that promote a culture of environmental stewardship and social responsibility within\u00a0the organization.<br \/>\nBuild internal awareness of key environmental and social risks, responsibilities, and\u00a0behavioural expectations.<br \/>\nFoster a positive culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility\u00a0through campaigns and leadership engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Additional Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, contributing to the overall success\u00a0of the HSES team and Anzana operations.<\/p>\n<p>Minimum Requirements<\/p>\n<p>Bachelor\u2019s degree in environmental engineering, Social Sciences, or a related field.<br \/>\nMinimum of 5 to 10 years experience in HSES management roles and experience in\u00a0the energy or utility sector is preferred. Demonstrable experience with large-scale\u00a0infrastructure or construction projects is highly desirable.<br \/>\nExperience with environmental and social impact assessments, resettlement, and\u00a0biodiversity considerations.<br \/>\nStrong knowledge of Zambian environmental legislation and permitting processes.<br \/>\nStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively\u00a0with diverse stakeholders and community structures. Strong written and verbal\u00a0communication skills in English are essential.<br \/>\nDemonstrated commitment to ethics, compliance, and sustainability.<br \/>\nCertification in HSES fields (e.g., NEBOSH, Environmental Professional, Social Impact\u00a0Assessment Practitioner) are an advantage.<br \/>\nExperience preparing HSES reports, KPI data, and regulatory\/lender documentation.<br \/>\nProficient in standard computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint,\u00a0email, and internet).<\/p>\n<p>Other Desired Skills and Experience<\/p>\n<p>Familiarity with Industry leading practices in environmental sustainability and social\u00a0impact management including international standards (ISO 14001\/45001, IFC\u00a0Performance Standards).<br \/>\nStrong analytical skills and attention to detail critical for monitoring compliance and\u00a0ensuring accuracy in reports.<br \/>\nAbility to facilitate constructive dialogue and manage stakeholder issues respectfully.<br \/>\nGIS skills are an added advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Benefits<\/p>\n<p>Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.<br \/>\nOpportunities for professional development and growth within a rapidly expanding\u00a0organisation.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing is Caring!
