\nJob description:
\nThe Plastician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of plastic components and linings within the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). This role ensures the structural integrity and functionality of HDPE pipelines, geomembranes, and other plastic-based materials critical for TSF operations.<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities
\n\u00a0
\n1. Plastic Fabrication and Repairs<\/p>\n
Fabricate, weld, and repair plastic components, including HDPE pipes, fittings, and geomembranes.
\nInspect plastic materials for signs of wear, damage, or leaks, and take corrective action as required.
\nPerform hot-air welding, extrusion welding, and other plastic welding techniques in line with technical standards.<\/p>\n
2. Installation and Maintenance<\/p>\n
Install and maintain plastic linings and pipes for TSF infrastructure.
\nAssist in the assembly and integration of plastic components with other systems.
\nConduct regular maintenance on plastic welding equipment to ensure reliable operation.<\/p>\n
3. Safety and Compliance<\/p>\n
Adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards during all plastic welding and installation activities.
\nConduct safety inspections of tools and work areas to minimize risks.
\nEnsure proper handling and disposal of plastic materials and waste in compliance with environmental regulations.<\/p>\n
4. Operational Support<\/p>\n
Collaborate with the TSF Maintenance team to plan and execute plastic component installations and repairs.
\nSupport troubleshooting efforts for issues related to plastic systems within TSF operations.
\nMaintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and materials used.<\/p>\n
5. Team Collaboration<\/p>\n
Work closely with other maintenance personnel, such as Boilermakers and Fitters, to ensure operational continuity.
\nProvide guidance to junior staff on plastic welding techniques and safety practices.<\/p>\n
Qualifications<\/p>\n
Grade 12 Certificate
\nCertificate or Diploma in Plastic Fabrication, Welding, or a related field.
\nCertification in HDPE or geomembrane welding is highly desirable.<\/p>\n

\nExperience<\/p>\n
Minimum of 3 years of experience in plastic welding and fabrication, preferably within mining or industrial settings.
\nProven expertise in working with HDPE, PVC, and other plastic materials.<\/p>\n
\u00a0
\nSkills<\/p>\n
Proficiency in plastic welding techniques, such as butt fusion, electrofusion, and extrusion welding.
\nAbility to interpret technical drawings, layouts, and specifications.
\nSkilled in using plastic welding tools and equipment.
\nStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.<\/p>\n
Work Environment<\/p>\n
Work in an outdoor TSF environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
\nAdherence to strict safety standards and use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.
\nRequires physical fitness to work on-site and handle heavy tools or materials.<\/p>\n
