Job Overview
\n\u2022\u00a0Accountant duties are likely to range from helping to prepare financial statements and accounts, budgeting, managing ledgers, processing invoices and preparing VAT returns.
\n\u2022\u00a0The Accountant provides whatever support is necessary to the Chief Financial Officer.
\nRoles, Duties and Responsibilities
\nAn Accountant will be expected to perform any of the following tasks:<\/p>\n
Overseeing Petty Cash.
\nPosting Monthly Journals.
\nPreparation of monthly and quarterly financials.
\nPreparing PIA Returns in sixty days after quarter end.
\nOversee Remittances to Insurers.
\nOverseeing bank transactions.
\nPreparation of monthly Budgets.
\nReconciliation Control accounts and ensuring that all ledgers on the trail balance have listings.
\nEnsure the correct classification of transactions and other accounting adjustments during management accounts on a monthly basis.
\nPreparation of monthly statutory obligations i.e. NHIMA, PAYE, NAPSA and Premium Levy.
\nPerforms general, additional accounting duties as needed.
\nMaintaining confidentiality.
\nRecording office expenditures and ensuring these expenses are within the set budget.
\nWork cordially with team members.
\nFile all reconciliations and any other work in a well-organized manner.
\nAssist with the annual audit preparation.
\nAttend to all bank correspondence.<\/p>\n
Person Specification and Qualification
\nTypical qualities of a successful Assistant Accountant include:
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Bachelor\u2019s degree in Accountancy, Diploma in Accounting, CIMA, ACCA
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Excellent excel skills
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Proactive individual focused on system and reporting improvements
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Payroll experience
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Some experience in preparation of balance sheet accounts.
