\nJOB PURPOSE
\nTo support the Legal Affairs Officer in the provision of legal advisory services to the organs of the Common Market, Member States, Institutions and specialized Agencies of COMESA, the Office of COMESA Secretary General and the COMESA Secretariat.
\nMAIN DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES<\/p>\n
Conduct background research and draft legal papers including pleadings for litigation, arbitration and Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR)<\/p>\n
Assist in litigation, arbitration and ADR before the COMESA Court of Justice and other Tribunals<\/p>\n
Generate initial drafts of legal opinions<\/p>\n
Collect, collate and manage legal instruments and the legal depository<\/p>\n
Prepare initial drafts for publication on the COMESA official website<\/p>\n
Provide administrative and technical support to statutory meetings<\/p>\n
Support implementation of Legal and Corporate Affairs Division programmes<\/p>\n
Draft project proposals on funding gaps<\/p>\n
Assist implementation of COMESA Migration and Intellectual Property Rights Programs<\/p>\n
Draft COMESA legislative instruments under Article 10 of the COMESA Treaty<\/p>\n
Perform other duties as assigned<\/p>\n
MINIMUM ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
Bachelor of Laws (LLB)<\/p>\n
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE<\/p>\n
Minimum three (3) years post qualification experience in a similar position with a reputable law firm<\/p>\n
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS<\/p>\n
Postgraduate qualification in Legal Drafting, Policy Analysis or Trade Law is an added advantage<\/p>\n
