Overview
\nMy client is seeking an experienced and\u00a0technically\u00a0strong\u00a0Seed Manager\u00a0to lead the agronomic, technical, and commercial development of the company\u2019s\u00a0seed and seedling portfolio across Zambia \u2013 mainly vegetable and onion.
\nThe role will oversee\u00a0national varietal evaluation, governance of multi-location trial programs, and correct varietal placement across Zambia\u2019s agro-ecological zones. The successful candidate will serve as the\u00a0technical custodian of the seed range, driving product performance, innovation, and sustainable growth through\u00a0data-driven agronomic decision making.
\nKey Responsibilities:
\nNational Trial Governance and Agronomic Leadership
\nZambia Market Analysis<\/p>\n
Design, implement, and govern\u00a0national multi-location trial programs\u00a0across Zambia.
\nEnsure\u00a0correct varietal placement\u00a0based on agro-ecological zones and production conditions.
\nOversee\u00a0yield benchmarking and comparative performance analysis\u00a0of seed varieties.
\nMaintain a structured\u00a0pipeline of new hybrid and OPV varieties.
\nAnalyse trial data and provide\u00a0clear technical and commercial recommendations.
\nEstablish and manage\u00a0Centres of Excellence and demonstration sites\u00a0nationwide.<\/p>\n
Seed and Seedling Sampling Portfolio<\/p>\n
Develop and maintain a\u00a0competitive vegetable seed portfolio\u00a0(Hybrid and OPV varieties). Vegetable seed \u2013 tomatoes \/ peppers \/ chilli \/ cabbage \/ lettuce \/ watermelon and onion seed.
\nManage\u00a0product lifecycle planning\u00a0including introduction, scaling, and phase-out of varieties.
\nAlign the\u00a0seedling range with market demand and production trends.
\nCollaborate with procurement and suppliers to ensure\u00a0optimal sourcing and supply planning.<\/p>\n
Technical Authority & Commercial Support<\/p>\n
Serve as the\u00a0technical authority for the seed range\u00a0within the organization.
\nSupport sales teams and key commercial farmers with\u00a0agronomic recommendations and crop performance insights.
\nDevelop\u00a0technical guides, trial reports, and crop production protocols.
\nLead\u00a0field days, farmer training programs, and technical marketing initiatives.<\/p>\n
Nursery & Quality Oversight<\/p>\n
Provide technical oversight to\u00a0nursery and seedling production operations.
\nImplement systems to monitor and manage:<\/p>\n
Germination performance
\nProduction efficiency and shrinkage
\nProduction costs
\nSeedling quality compliance<\/p>\n
Ensure\u00a0statutory compliance with seed packaging and labelling regulations.<\/p>\n
Data & Performance Management<\/p>\n
Maintain comprehensive performance records including:<\/p>\n
Germination rates
\nYield performance
\nVariety adoption rates
\nProduction cost analysis<\/p>\n
Translate agronomic and trial data into\u00a0commercial recommendations and portfolio decisions.
\nProvide\u00a0regular performance reporting and insights to management.<\/p>\n
Qualifications<\/p>\n
BSc in Agriculture\u00a0(Agronomy or Crop Science preferred).
\nMembership of AIZ (Agricultural Institute of Zambia)\u00a0will be advantageous.<\/p>\n
Science
\nExperience<\/p>\n
Minimum\u00a010+ years practical agronomy experience, specifically within the\u00a0seed sector (specifically vegetable and onion).
\nProven experience in\u00a0crop trials, varietal evaluation, and seed portfolio management.
\nNursery, greenhouse or vegetable farming experience
\nStrong understanding of\u00a0Zambia\u2019s agro-ecological diversity and crop production systems\u00a0will be an advantage.
\nDemonstrated ability to\u00a0translate agronomic data into commercial outcomes.<\/p>\n
