\nRole Overview
\nThe Head of Distribution & Logistics will be responsible for leading and optimizing end-to-end distribution operations, with a strong focus on cold chain management. This role ensures efficient product flow across wholesalers, retailers, and cross-border markets while maintaining product integrity and operational excellence.
\nThe role combines strategic oversight with hands-on operational execution, supporting both logistics performance and commercial growth, particularly in expanding the cold chain business.
\nKey Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Distribution & Operational Management<\/p>\n
Oversee day-to-day distribution operations across wholesalers and retailers, ensuring seamless execution.
\nEnsure product availability, on-time delivery, and service level excellence across all channels.
\nDrive operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
\nAct as an operational specialist, solving complex distribution challenges.<\/p>\n
Cold Chain Management<\/p>\n
Lead and expand cold chain logistics capabilities.
\nEnsure strict compliance with temperature-controlled handling and storage requirements.
\nIdentify opportunities to grow the cold chain business and improve service offerings.<\/p>\n
Cross-Border Operations<\/p>\n
Manage and optimize cross-border distribution activities.
\nEnsure compliance with regional trade regulations and customs requirements.
\nImprove lead times, cost efficiency, and reliability across borders.<\/p>\n
Transport & Logistics Optimization<\/p>\n
Support transport operations in collaboration with the Head of Logistics.
\nContribute to the rollout and adoption of AI-driven transport optimization tools.
\nImprove route planning, fleet utilization, and delivery efficiency.<\/p>\n
Systems & Data Management<\/p>\n
Utilize systems such as Sage and DAT\/Time (or similar ERP\/logistics platforms) for operational control and reporting.
\nEnsure data accuracy, visibility, and reporting integrity.
\nLeverage analytics to drive decision-making and performance improvements.<\/p>\n
Distribution Costing & Financial Efficiency<\/p>\n
Develop and manage distribution cost models.
\nIdentify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
\nMonitor logistics spend and drive budget adherence.<\/p>\n
Trading Operations Support<\/p>\n
Align distribution activities with trading and commercial objectives.
\nEnsure operational readiness to support sales growth and market expansion.
\nCollaborate with commercial teams to improve customer service and fulfillment.<\/p>\n
Sales Enablement<\/p>\n
Support sales teams by ensuring strong product availability and delivery reliability.
\nContribute to strategies that grow revenue through improved distribution reach and service.
\nPlay a key role in expanding market access via efficient logistics.<\/p>\n
Key Skills & Competencies<\/p>\n
Strong operational leadership and execution capability
\nDeep expertise in cold chain logistics
\nCross-border logistics and regulatory knowledge
\nData-driven decision-making and analytical skills
\nExperience with ERP\/logistics systems (e.g., Sage, DAT\/Time)
\nStrong financial acumen in distribution costing
\nAbility to implement and adapt to AI-driven logistics tools
\nExcellent stakeholder management and collaboration skills
\nCommercial awareness with the ability to support sales growth<\/p>\n
Experience & Qualifications<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field
\n8\u201312+ years of experience in distribution and logistics
\nProven experience in cold chain logistics (essential)
\nExperience managing large-scale distribution networks (wholesale & retail)
\nStrong background in cross-border operations (preferably within Africa)
\nExperience in transport optimization and logistics technologies<\/p>\n
