Yalelo is seeking a Hatchery Superintendent \u2013 Broodstock and Genetic Improvement, who will be responsible for all broodstock management and fry production within the hatchery, including the implementation and oversight of genetic improvement programmes..<\/p>\n
Key Responsibilities<\/p>\n
Manages hatchery production schedules and operations rotational, modular management for consistent productionnto meet the target of 300 million larvae per year.
\nOversees the brood stock management of 60,000 female breeders (Generation 09), managing selective breeding protocols and ensuring optimal genetic lines.
\nEnsure Hatchery sanitation daily and maintain high levels of biosecurity, including rotational disinfection, in full compliance with BAP standards.
\nProvides consultation and direction necessary to enable supervisors to produce and deliver quality fry.
\nSupervises and directs the work of supervisors, meets with supervisors daily to review equipment and personnel needs.
\nReviews reports and takes corrective measures regarding larvae production rates, genetic tracking, and water quality.
\nPerforms administrative duties in preparing reports, maintaining personnel records and hatchability records.
\nReviews Maintenance, Vehicle, Chemical and other records.
\nDirects Safety program and holds safety meetings.
\nKeeps Hatchery Manager informed with timely and sufficient information on production, Brood stock management, and genetic improvement milestones.
\nEnsures operational and maintenance of hatchery equipment.
\nEffectively trains and manages hatchery personnel and maintains a cooperative team environment.
\nManage, train, and supervise technical and labour personnel on BAP compliance, animal welfare, and proper fish handling.
\nParticipates in hatchery design, construction, and development of procedures.
\nManages inventories and production supplies.
\nManages computerized production data and reports for genetic tracking and inventory management.
\nAssists in trouble shooting and improvement of production systems and procedures.<\/p>\n
Experience and Education<\/p>\n
Bachelor\u2019s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Animal Science, or a related field.
\nMinimum of 3\u20135 years\u2019 experience in aquaculture or hatchery operations, with proven record in a supervisory role.
\nProven experience in broodstock management, fish breeding, and fry production.
\nDemonstrated knowledge of genetic improvement programmes and selective breeding techniques is an added advantage.
\nStrong leadership and team management experience in a production environment.
\nExperience working with hatchery systems, water quality management, and biosecurity protocols.<\/p>\n
