JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTANT [1]<\/p>\n
JOB PURPOSE
\nTo manage and oversee the financial operations of Palabana University by ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective budget control, compliance with financial regulations, and efficient utilization of financial resources.<\/p>\n
Key Duties and Responsibilities
\n1. Financial Reporting\u2022 Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.\u2022 Produce management accounts to support decision-making.\u2022 Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and university policies.
\n2. Budgeting & Budgetary Control\u2022 Prepare and consolidate departmental budgets.\u2022 Monitor budget performance and analyse variances.\u2022 Provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency and control.
\n3. Financial Planning & Forecasting\u2022 Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to guide strategic planning.\u2022 Advise management on financial trends and risks.
\n4. Treasury & Cash Management\u2022 Manage cash flow to ensure availability of funds.\u2022 Oversee banking activities and reconciliations.\u2022 Ensure proper utilisation and safeguarding of funds.<\/p>\n
5. Internal Controls & Compliance\u2022 Implement and monitor internal control systems.\u2022 Ensure compliance with university financial policies and statutory requirements.\u2022 Identify and mitigate financial risks.
\n6. Audit Support\u2022 Coordinate internal and external audits.\u2022 Respond to audit queries and implement recommendations.
\n7. Records Management\u2022 Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and supporting documentation.\u2022 Ensure proper filing and retrieval systems.<\/p>\n
8. Supervision & Leadership\u2022 Supervise finance staff and ensure efficient workflow.\u2022 Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance monitoring.<\/p>\n
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
\n\u2022 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills\u2022 High level of accuracy and attention to detail\u2022 Good communication and report writing skills\u2022 Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills\u2022 Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office\u2022 Proficiency in computer applications and accounting software<\/p>\n
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
\n\u2022 Grade 12 Full Certificate\u2022 Minimum of ACCA\/CIMA\/ZICA or equivalent\u2022 Must be a registered and practicing member of ZICA\u2022 Minimum of 5 years\u2019 relevant experience in accounting or financial management\u2022 Position on full time basis.<\/p>\n
