This role is responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to management on environmental policy programmes to achieve levels of environmental protection that are consistent with national and international standards and meet national legislation requirements as a minimum.
\nThe position will report to the Senior Manager \u2013 Health, Safety, Environment and Risk.
\nKey Accountabilities<\/p>\n
Develop and implement corporate sustainability strategies.
\nSupport ESG reporting and disclosure in line with global standards.
\nConduct carbon footprint assessments and suggest mitigation measures.
\nProvide technical expertise and advice to management on environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance relevant to CEC operations.
\nInitiate programs aimed at environmental protection, conservation and resource efficiency.
\nEnsure compliance with national and international environmental and social regulations (e.g. IFC Performance Standards, World Bank safeguards, Equator Principles).
\nUndertake Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) for new project developments in line with regulatory requirements to secure necessary regulatory approvals for the implementation of the projects.
\nIdentify and assess environmental impacts and mitigate environmental and social risks associated with the projects and operations.
\nDevelop and implement mitigation plans to address potential impacts on biodiversity, water usage, water management and pollution control.
\nDevelop emergency response plans for environmental and social incidents.
\nEnsure that performance of the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) remains effective and aligned with industry best practices, relevant regulations and international standards specifically ISO 14001 and IFC Performance Standards as a minimum.
\nPlan and conduct proactive compliance inspection and audit programmes for all company areas of operations to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements and environmental performance and continual improvement.
\nDevelop and implement the grievance mechanisms for affected communities.
\nPrepare statutory reports, environmental and social performance reports and environmental management plans highlighting company performance and initiatives regarding management and control of environmental and social risks for the attention of management, regulators, shareholders and all other relevant stakeholders.
\nDesign environmental awareness training programmes to support implementation of the Environmental Policy, Procedures and Environmental Management Plans.
\nBuild capacity for ESG reporting and compliance within the organisation.
\nRespond to environmental incidents by carrying out field\/technical inspections and investigations, to establish root cause and develop action plans to avoid recurrences.
\nPrepare and control sectional budget within the company guidelines and ensure that expenditure is kept within budget limits.
\nCreate and maintain a safe and secure work environment through proactive risk identification, reporting and management.
\nDemonstrate behavior in line with CEC values, standards and expectations of a professional workplace.
\nParticipate as an effective team member in working collaboratively with leaders, peers and relevant others (including from other teams) to achieve business goals.
\nUndertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.<\/p>\n
To be successful in this role, you will be required to have:<\/p>\n
Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Natural Resources Management
\nQualification in Environmental Management System ISO 14001
\nIFC Performance Standards, World Bank Safeguards and Equator Principles Training
\nNebosh Environmental Management certificate
\nCertified Environmental and Social Analyst
\nESG and Sustainability Certifications
\nMinimum 3 years\u2019 experience in environmental management in an environment and social role and context of similar complexity.
\nIn-depth understanding of Environmental Management systems and proven technical skills and knowledge in Environmental Social Impact Assessment Studies.
\nHands-on experience with renewable energy, power generation, and transmission projects.<\/p>\n
