\n\t\t\t\tThe Zimbabwe School of Mines is a mining school in Zimbabwe that provides a higher education qualification in mining by providing competency-based training for high caliber, hands-on technicians.<\/p>\n
Position DescriptionJob Title: \t\tLaboratory Technician (Assaying)Reporting to: \tLaboratory SupervisorClosing Date:\t\t18 May 2026Location: \t\tBulawayo<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\tDuties and Responsibilities
\n\t\t\t\tThe candidate must be capable of setting up practical work for students in the chemistry and fire-assay laboratories, demonstrating operation of equipment to students, testing samples for both internal and external customers, marking student practical assignments, and should be able to operate the following equipment:o\tFusion furnaceo\tMuffle furnaceo\tAtomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS)o\tX-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF)o\tInductively Coupled Plasma o\tUV\/VIS Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis)\uf0a7\tSupervision of students\u2019 practicals.\uf0a7\tPreparation of chemicals and solutions for practicals.\uf0a7\tAssistance of students and staff with their research work.\uf0a7\tLaboratory inventory checks and production of reports.\uf0a7\tCarry out fire-assay and wet chemical analysis of samples.\uf0a7\tCarry out Income generation projects in the department.\uf0a7\tMaintenance of a clean lab environment.\uf0a7\tDisposal of chemical waste.\uf0a7\tEvaluation of laboratory consumables and other components during receiving from suppliers and stores.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\tQualifications and Experience
\n\t\t\t\tMinimum of five years of industrial work experience, preferably in the metallurgical assaying laboratories.\uf0a7\tDiploma in Metallurgical Assaying\/or Equivalent.\uf0a7\tHigher Diploma\/ degree in a relevant field an added advantage.\uf0a7\tExperience of fire assaying techniques a prerequisite\uf0a7\tKnowledge of 1SO:17025 QMS implementation\uf0a7\tSuperior communication skills in English, including the development of executive presentations and briefings.\uf0a7\tCandidate must be prepared to start work on the 1st of June 2026<\/p>\n
