\n\t\t\t\tAn exciting opportunity has arisen within our Risk Department for a Risk Officer. Qualified and experienced candidates with backgrounds in Banking and financial sector are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\tDuties and Responsibilities
\n\t\t\t\t. Risk Management Framework\u2022 Develops, implements and maintains a comprehensive risk management framework appropriate to the Microbank\u2019s size and complexity.\u2022 Ensures alignment with regulatory requirements, internal policies and best practices in risk management.<\/p>\n
2. Risk Identification & Assessment\u2022 Conducts periodic enterprise-wide risk assessments across all departments (credit, operations, IT, Treasury, etc.).\u2022 Monitors incidents, losses and near-misses and proposes mitigation strategies.<\/p>\n
3. Risk Monitoring and Reporting\u2022 Monitors risk exposures against approved risk appetite, limits and tolerances.\u2022 Prepares timely and accurate risk reports for Management, Board and relevant committees.\u2022 Escalates emerging risks, breaches and control weaknesses.<\/p>\n
4. Credit Risk Oversight\u2022 Reviews and assess credit policies, underwriting standards, and portfolio performance.\u2022 Monitors asset quality indicators such as PAR, NPLs, concentration risk, and provisioning adequacy.\u2022 Independently reviews credit processes to ensure adherence to policies.<\/p>\n
5. Financial and Risk Modelling\u2022 Performs stress testing, scenario analysis and sensitivity analysis on liquidity, capital adequacy and credit portfolios.\u2022 Supports capital planning and sustainability assessments through risk-based financial modelling.<\/p>\n
6. Internal Controls and Assurance\u2022 Evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls.\u2022 Ensures proper segregation of duties to prevent conflicts of interest.\u2022 Provides independent assurance over business operations and risk-taking activities.<\/p>\n
7. Regulatory Risk\u2022 Ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, prudential guidelines and supervisory requirements.\u2022 Assists in preparing regulatory reports e.g. ICAAP, Climate risk assessments, for the RBZ and other authorities.\u2022 Liaises with regulators on risk-related matters, examinations and returns where required.\u2022 Monitors regulatory developments and assess their impact on the Microbank.<\/p>\n
8. Policy Development\u2022 Assists in developing and reviewing risk-related policies and procedures.\u2022 Participates in and provides support to management and board committees.\u2022 Embeds risk awareness and accountability across the institution.<\/p>\n
9. Risk Culture and Awareness\u2022 Promotes a strong risk culture through staff training and awareness initiatives across the Microbank.\u2022 Advises management on risk implications of new products, processes and strategic initiatives.<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\tQualifications and Experience
\n\t\t\t\tBachelor\u2019s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Risk Management, or related field.\u2022 Professional certifications are an added advantage (e.g., CRM, FRM, CFA, ACAMS, CIA).\u2022 At least 2 years\u2019 experience working in the banking industry, within the risk management, internal audit, or related.\u2022 Experience of working in a Microfinance Bank or small financial institution is highly desirable.<\/p>\n
Key Skills & Competencies\u2022 Strong analytical and quantitative skills.\u2022 Understanding of microfinance business models and lending methodologies.\u2022 Knowledge of risk frameworks (e.g., ISO 31000, COSO).\u2022 Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and risk analysis tools.\u2022 Good communication and report-writing skills.\u2022 High integrity, attention to detail and problem-solving ability.<\/p>\n
