VACANCY
The Botswana Meat Industry Regulatory Authority is a parastatal of the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture established in accordance with the MIRA Act (2024).
The Authority is established to provide for the regulation of the livestock and meat industry, and to provide for the control of the grading, marketing, sale, importation and the exportation of, and the imposition of levies in respect of livestock and meat products, and other matters related thereto.
The Authority is also mandated to promote the interest of the livestock and meat industry to ensure the profitability, sustainability and competitiveness of the industry, including accelerating innovation, research and development of the livestock and meat industry.
4. VACANCY: CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
In order to achieve its mandate, the newly established authority requires a seasoned and professional Chief Executive Officer. Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Botswana Meat Industry Regulatory Authority.
5. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Chief Executive Officer will drive the establishment of the Authority, plan, coordinate and monitor initiatives, programs and services aimed at achieving the Authority’s strategic objectives.
6. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Lead the development and implementation of the Authority strategy, aimed at ensuring that the authority is sustainable.
Ensure that the authority carries out the functions and duties placed upon it in terms of the Botswana Meat Industry Regulatory Authority Act.
Control the resources and operations of all the services under the Authority.
Develop, implement and monitor strategies and plans designed to achieve and maintain food security by promoting the trade of livestock and meat products and further improve efficiency in the meat production and processing.
Promote research, development and innovation across the value chain in the livestock and meat industry.
Establish and develop partnerships with key stakeholders both locally and internationally to ensure strong collaboration in the livestock and meat industry.
Report to and advise the Board of Directors.
Perform any other duties as may be conferred on him or her by the Board of Directors.

8. QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science/Health, Food Science, Public Health, General Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Project Management, or any related field.
Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field will be an added advantage.
9. EXPERIENCE
At least fifteen (15) years’ regulatory affairs post qualification experience of which at least ten (10) years should have been in a senior management position. The experience should include, corporate policy development, strategic planning, operational management.
10. REMUNERATION
The position attracts a market competitive package.
