The Institute is governed by a Council comprising of eleven (11) members, out of whom, ten (10) are elected by members and one (1) appointed by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Finance pursuant to the CPS Act. The Council is led by the Chairman who is also elected by members. The Council operates through Committees established to handle various Terms of Reference. Globally Certified Secretaries (CSs) have varying titles depending on the type of organization they are working for and the position they occupy in such organizations. Some of the titles applicable include Company Secretary, Corporate Secretary, Corporation Secretary, Board Secretary and Chartered Secretary. In Kenya, members of the Institute of Certified Secretaries are generally referred to as Certified Secretaries and the designatory letters “CS” are used before their names. The designation is protected at the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI). The Institute of Certified Secretaries is a member of the Certified Secretaries International Association (CSIA).

Job Description Summary

We are seeking an Accountant to lead the Institute’s Accounting function. The ideal candidate will oversee the entire accounting cycle, ensure regulatory compliance, provide strategic financial insights, and lead the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the management and the Council.

Key Result Areas

Financial reporting, forecasting, and financial records management.
Budget preparation, monitoring, variance analysis, and financial planning.
Revenue, receivables, credit control, and cash flow management.
Financial accounting systems management and operational efficiency.
Internal controls, including accounting, payroll, asset safeguarding, and tax compliance.
Financial analysis, advisory, and decision-support reporting.
Audit coordination, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and continuous improvement of financial procedures.

Job Specification/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university, with a master’s degree as an added advantage.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and member of ICPAK in good standing.
Minimum of three (3) years relevant work experience, preferably in the public sector or in a professional membership organization.
Proficiency in advanced Excel skills and computerized accounting systems (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central),
Strong communication and presentation abilities.
