World Relief is an international relief and development agency. Kenya faces a high dependency burden which places pressing demands on social services including education and healthcare. Food insecurity and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs in Northern Kenya remain extremely high. World Relief's work in Kenya began with an HIV/AIDS prevention program and grew to include initiatives in peacebuilding, savings, agriculture, and disaster response. Along with providing immediate disaster relief to areas suffering from drought, livestock disease and food shortages, World Relief's programs in Kenya have now transitioned to focus on long-term, integrated programs focused on sustainable agriculture, access to water, nutrition, food security, savings and health interventions. KEY FACTS World Relief's programs in Kenya began in 1991. Programs currently reach 558 households in Kenya and 21 farmer groups with skills in agricultural production to boost household food security. 4 boreholes were drilled and sand dams built in Turkana, revitalizing the area with access to water for livestock, domestic use and farming.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development (40%)
Grow WR’s Health and Nutrition portfolio and funding through leads development, pre-positioning, and the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals.
Collaborate with the Business Development team to create guidance and equip country offices in relevant partner mapping and relationship development
Provide technical and partnership support and advice on prepositioning and lead development for health and nutrition new business, including supporting the creation of capacity statements, partner approaches, case studies, donor pitches, etc
Work with WR COs to explore new opportunities for implementing health and nutrition programming, in alignment with the organizational and sectoral strategies.
In collaboration with the BD department, design project strategies, develop high quality proposals, and write concept notes and proposals in collaboration with country-level staff and other WR HO TAs.
Co-design approaches with country teams through the facilitation of design workshops and development of appropriate theory of change, logframes and indicators
Review proposals to ensure compliance with donor requirements for technical sections.
Ensure that health and nutrition proposals include appropriate budget for critical costs including technical service provision, pharmaceuticals and relevant staff capacity development.
Program Quality and Technical Assistance (30%)
Act as global technical lead for supporting implementation and continued growth of World Relief’s Health and Nutrition programming. This includes acting as technical lead for WR’s program portfolio covering health, nutrion, and WASH and supervision to contractors who support these portfolios
Provide technical support to country offices with assessments, program planning and design, monitoring and evaluation, capacity building, and program quality assurance.
Strengthen CO capacity to prepare implementation and monitoring and evaluation plans
Work with COs to adapt, update, and contextualize tools and curricula
Review program targets, resources allocated toward targets, and track progress toward targets in programs/projects as assigned by the Director, Program Quality and Impact Department.
Mentor and advise program staff on engagement of health and nutrition activities in and with the local church and communities.
Carry out project visits to country offices for sectoral training, program monitoring and evaluation, quality improvement, and partner development and collaboration
Develop programming guidance and tools (including capacity building strategies, curricula, and M&E tools) in collaboration with other sectoral teams to help country office staff design and implement context-specific projects.
Coordinate and support country-specific assessment and evaluations of quality and impact of health and nutrition and other integrated programs.
Strategy, Learning and Impact (15%)
Train and support program staff and partners (in-person and virtually) in specific program guidelines and tools. Orient and equip staff on key manuals, curricula and tools that are used to design, implement and assess health and nutrition programs
Foster learning and collaboration among WR staff through the facilitation of the WR Health and Nutrition Community of Practice.
Stay abreast of new developments and innovations in the health and nutrion sector to ensure program compliance and incorporate into staff capacity building, design of new projects and scaling up of best practices
Provide and document evidence generated from COs and multi-country programs to improve the perception and competitiveness of WR and as a strong voice and advocate for social justice and change on behalf of our program participants.
Strengthen documentation and evidence-building around WR’s health and nutrition programming work for internal learning and external publications through the development of case studies, project briefs, and published articles.
External Engagement (15%)
Build WR’s technical brand through thought-leadership, networking and engaging with partners, donors, governments and community leaders and addressing professional conferences and technical forums through abstracts, program presentations, publications, and advocacy.
Participate in relevant health and nutrition professional networks and working groups, such as those through CORE Group, CCIH and the Global Health Cluster.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrated technical expertise and experience in designing and providing technical assistance to health and nutrition programming in emergencies and in protracted humanitarian crises, including familiarity with CHS and Sphere standards for health and nutrition programming in humanitarian action and other tools and guidance from WHO and UNICEF
Familiarity with US government foreign assistance policies and guidance related to humanitarian programming and the health and nutrtion sector
Proven experience in program design and business development evidenced by successful grant awards and past history of working with BHA, DoS, ECHO and UNICEF
Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation utilizing quantitative and qualitative methodology, including development of indicators, logframes, and assessments.
Must be able to establish strong relationships cross culturally
Ability to manage competing priorities
Proven solid analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong facilitation skills and proven experience providing capacity building for adults
High level of proficiency with technology including Microsoft Office applications
Excellent English language oral presentation and written communication skills.
Ability and willingness to travel to program countries for up to 25% of time including to insecure locations where freedom of movement may be limited and areas where amenities are limited
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree or higher in Public Health or other related field. Desirable: qualification in a clinical health field e.g. medical doctor, nurse, midwife
Minimum seven years of experience in designing and implementing global health and/or nutrition programs in multiple regions of the world, with particular focus on social and behavior change strategies
At least three years of experience working in fragile or conflict-affected areas or with people on the move as a key target population
