The Legal Officer will play a crucial role in ensuring 4G Capital’s compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements in Kenya and Uganda. This role involves providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing litigation, and supporting the company’s operations to mitigate legal risks.
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and support on a wide range of legal matters affecting 4G Capital’s operations in Kenya and Uganda, including commercial contracts, product development, and regulatory compliance.
Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including contracts, agreements, policies, and procedures.
Conduct legal research and analysis to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, particularly those from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA).
Assist in managing litigation and dispute resolution processes, including liaising with external counsel when necessary.
Support the development and implementation of legal and compliance frameworks, policies, and training programs.
Monitor changes in relevant legislation and regulatory requirements in Kenya and Uganda and advise the company on potential impacts.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including product development, risk, and operations teams, to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business processes.
Assist in corporate governance matters and ensure adherence to company secretarial requirements.
Manage and maintain legal records and documentation.
Required Skills for a Legal Officer
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
Admission to the Bar in Kenya.
Minimum of 5 years post-qualified experience in legal practice, preferably with experience in the financial services or fintech industry.
Strong understanding of contract law, financial regulations, and corporate law in Kenya (and to some degree Uganda – or the competence to learn this as required).
