Job Description
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu (AKHK) is an Institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network.
The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa.
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2022 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care Level 5 accreditation and is at an advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation.
AKHK has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End-Kisumu, Busia, Homa Bay, Migori, Bomet, Eldoret, Kimilili, Nyamira, Kabarnet and an upcoming Medical Centre in Lodwar.
The Hospital seeks to attract a qualified, experienced and dynamic professional for the following position in the Human Resources Department:
SENIOR MANAGER – HUMAN RESOURCES
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, with a functional (dotted-line) reporting relationship to the Global Head of Human Resources and the Regional HR Coordinator, the Senior Manager – Human Resources will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Human Resources function across the Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu cluster.
The role is responsible for aligning Human Resource strategy with the Hospital’s business objectives and regional priorities, driving organizational effectiveness, talent management, workforce transformation, employee engagement, organizational culture and HR governance, while ensuring compliance with statutory, institutional and quality standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement Human Resource strategies, policies and programmes aligned with the Hospital’s strategic objectives and the Aga Khan Health Services framework.
Provide strategic Human Resource leadership and advisory support to the Chief Executive Officer, Leadership Team and Heads of Department on all people-related matters.
Lead workforce planning, talent acquisition, succession planning and retention strategies to ensure the Hospital attracts, develops and retains high-performing talent.
Drive organizational development, change management, employee engagement and culture initiatives that promote a high-performing, inclusive and values-driven workplace.
Oversee performance management, leadership development, learning and development programmes to strengthen organizational capability.
Foster positive employee and industrial relations while ensuring compliance with Kenyan labour laws, statutory requirements, institutional policies and Human Resource best practices.
Lead compensation and benefits administration, job evaluation, HR budgeting and workforce planning processes.
Champion safeguarding and employee well-being by promoting a culture of safety, accountability, dignity and respect across the Hospital.
Provide strategic Human Resource leadership in support of quality improvement initiatives, including Joint Commission International Accreditation, Safe Care, standards and other institutional excellence programmes.
Lead the continuous improvement and digital transformation of Human Resource systems and processes, ensuring integrity, confidentiality and effective utilization of HR information and workforce analytics.
Collaborate closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Global Head of Human Resources and Regional HR Coordinator to align local Human Resource initiatives with regional and global priorities.
Lead, mentor and develop the Human Resources team while promoting continuous improvement, operational excellence and exceptional customer service
REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or a related field from a recognized institution.
Higher National Diploma in Human Resource Management or Certified Human Resource Practitioner (CHRP (K)) qualification.
Full membership of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), Kenya, with a valid Practicing License.
Minimum of ten (10) years’ progressive Human Resource Management experience, with at least five (5) years at a Senior Human Resource Management level.
Demonstrated experience in strategic Human Resource Management, organizational development, talent management, employee relations, change management, and the application of Kenyan labour laws and employment legislation.
Experience working in a large, complex organization, preferably within the healthcare sector or a multi-site service environment, will be an added advantage.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, stakeholder management, communication and analytical skills, with high levels of integrity, professionalism and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multicultural environment
