PURPOSE OF POSITION
To provide age-appropriate patient care according to the nursing scope of practice as defined by the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Practice within your scope of practice as a Registered Nurse.
Provide care for patients with acute conditions by building therapeutic relationships and responding to their physical and emotional needs while delivering effective care.
Administer patients’ medication and treatments and monitor outcomes.
Manage symptoms of mental illness, de-escalate stressful situations, and support patients in overcoming challenges.
Engage with patients’ families and other members of the healthcare team, providing advice and information regarding patients’ conditions.
Prepare and maintain patient records and develop care plans and risk assessments.
Organize group therapy sessions, including social and artistic activities aimed at promoting patients’ mental recovery.
Lead and supervise the team.
Attend to patients’ complaints.
Provide safe, high-quality patient care within the ward/unit.
Comply with SANC requirements and all relevant stakeholder legislation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Matric is essential.
Diploma or Degree in Nursing Science or a related qualification.
Must be Psych trained.
Must be registered with SANC as a Registered Nurse with valid APC.
Must have two or more years of experience as a Professional Nurse in a Psychiatric Ward.
Computer literate – MS Word & Excel.
Must be prepared to do shift-work (Night shift / Day Shift).
