Role Context
Strategic Implementation / Operational Management
Oversee the delivery of patrolling and surveillance activities across the mine premises by identifying and determining risk areas in order to allocate staff to ensure parameter fencing, entrances and critical infrastructure areas to safeguard the premises from security breaches.
Manage the utilisation and of surveillance equipment such as CCTV cameras and alarm systems to detect and record any suspicious activity or security breaches.
Co-develop action plans and ensure the implementation of crowd management and public order policing tactics to block off the crowd, minimize security breaches and prevent damage to infrastructure and assets.
Set-up and provide restrainment and isolation activities by monitoring specific incidents and actions to ensure prevention of unauthorised entry into mine plant or offices during protests or community unrests.
Identify and manage the application of proportionality of force to threat to ensure the balance of actions taken are in line with standard regulations and law.
Lead the observation and identification of vulnerabilities including negligence involving the safekeeping of equipment and manage the application of protocols and reporting of incidents to ensure adherence to regulations.
Manage the monitoring and control of entry and exit of personnel, vehicles, equipment to the mine site as well as the conducting of induction procedures to ensure compliance with security and mining health and safety act in the mine sites.
Resource Management
Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
Provide staff with day-to-day directions and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.
Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
Request required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs.
Stakeholder Relations
Engage with all relevant Departments on issues in the area of specialisation, as directed by the Manager.
Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
People Management
Oversee day-to-day security operations and people management including the deployment and management of security personnel and resources to ensure performance standards are met.
Implement clear human capability and accountability processes and procedures within the security department in line with TM’s people management strategies.
Supervise security staff, conduct performance evaluations to identify skills gaps and recommend training interventions and programmes to optimise performance and skills development.
Coach, mentor and train teams and drive efforts to ensure adequate training and skills development is in place to improve employee performance.
Compliance, Risk and Safety

Requirements
Qualifications:
Grade 12 National Senior Certificate (NQF4).
National diploma (NQF 6) in Security Management or Equivalent (advantageous).
Certifications:
PSIRA Grade A
Job specific experience:
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role of which at least 2 years must be in a Mining Environment.
