About Municipality of Chinhoyi The historical development of the municipality can be traced back to the last quarter of the 19th century during the colonial era. In about 1893 there was so much activity in and around Chinhoyi as people were searching for gold and other minerals and it became necessary to establish some sort of control in the area and a Police Post was established on the site of the present day Chinhoyi, it was called Sinoia by then.
Job Description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacancies below in the Department of Engineering Services.
GRADE 8REPORTING TO: TRANSPORT OFFICERLOCATION: ENGINEERING DEPOT, MUNICIPALITY OF CHINHOYIDURATION: 12 MONTH CONTRACTJOB PURPOSEResponsible for dismantling, repairing, and (re)assembling vehicle components, including engines, transmissions, compressors, injector pumps, brake systems, clutch systems, suspension systems, and automotive electrical systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESULT AREAS• Inspects, diagnoses, and connects failed or malfunctioning vehicle components (that is, electrical, hydraulic, or mechanical issues)• Provide technical advice on repair and maintenance solutions.• Makes follow-ups on jobs contracted outside the council.• Generates progress reports on completed work, work in progress, and outstanding spares.• Implementation of procedures related to health and safety in accordance with the Factories and Works Act• Ensure proper housekeeping in the workshop.• Preventive maintenance: Conducting scheduled services (oil changes, tune-ups, filter replacements) to prolong the lifespan of the council’s fleet.• Regulatory compliance: Ensure all vehicles pass regulatory Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) fitness checks and conform to Environmental Management Agency (EMA) and road traffic regulations.• Breakdown recovery: Responding to field breakdowns to get essential services (such as waste collection or emergency response vehicles) back on the road quickly.• Record keeping: completing job cards, tracking parts inventory, and documenting repair logs • The above applies to light and heavy-dutydiesel and petrol vehicles
Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE• Apprenticeship-trained motor mechanic with 5 years of post-qualification experience, OR a trade-tested Skilled Worker, OR a Journeyman Class 3 or better, motor mechanic with 8 years of post-qualification experience, OR a diploma in motor mechanics or 2 years of relevant work experience• Clean and valid Class 2 or 4 driver’s licence.• Must be 35 years old or below
