  • BUSINESS INTELIGENCE SPECIALIST

    Role Overview
     

     

    Responsible for providing business reporting, analysis, and insights through the design, implementation, and management of organisation-wide business big data systems.

    Collaborate with business stakeholders to collect, ingest, transform, and analyse data to uncover insights for business decision-making.

    Main Duties (include but are not limited to):
     
     

    Designing, implementing, and maintaining Big Data solutions, and ensuring compliance with the data protection act and regulatory requirements.

    Designing and automating pipelines in support of data and analytics projects, including integrating new data sources into the data lake/warehouse.

    Designing, implementing, and managing databases to ensure high availability and data integrity.

    Leading and coordinating all business intelligence-related projects and ensuring compliance with data integrity standards.

    Working closely with internal business and technical stakeholders to ensure objectives, priorities, and key requirements are understood and agreed upon.

    Effectively communicating data trends, inconsistencies, and unavailability to executive management.

    Ensuring timely delivery of business reports and data accuracy.

    Good knowledge of Big Data querying tools, such as Hive and Impala.

    Excellent knowledge of data management technologies and scripting languages (SQL, MySQL, Oracle).

    Knowledge of IT programming (SQL, MySQL, R) and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

    Good leadership and interpersonal skills.

     
     
    Qualifications and Experience
     
     

    Academic level: Degree in Computer Engineering / Computer Science / Information Systems / Business Intelligence / Data Analytics and Science.

    Professional certification in relevant big data technologies and data analysis will be an added advantage.

    A Master’s Degree would be an added advantage.

    Minimum experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a data analytics environment with emphasis in Business Intelligence / Data Analytics / Big Data.

    Key Performance Areas
     
     

    Directs the formulation and implementation of effective strategies for providing and maintaining adequate, safe, and secure facilities and infrastructure.

    Coordinates and controls the management of capital projects, facilities maintenance, procurement of equipment and materials, and cost control.

    Ensures that the university complies with all health, safety, waste management, and environmental regulations to promote the routine use of facilities in a safe and sustainable manner.

    Coordinates and supervises the activities of contractors for cost-effectiveness, safety, and timely completion of works.

    Leads the development and implementation of facilities management policies and procedures.

    Safeguards facilities and accident hazards to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and university policies.

     
     
    Qualifications, Experience
     
     

    Bachelor’s Degree in Estate Management/Project Management/Facilities Management/Construction Management/Civil Engineering/Building Services or a related field.

    At least 7 years post qualification experience in facilities management or building maintenance.

    Experience in a higher education, Regulatory or any other similar institution will be an added advantage.

    Key Performance Areas
     
     

    Oversee the formulation, review, and implementation of communication policies, strategies, plans, rules, regulations, systems, processes, procedures, standards and guidelines, in order to ensure achievement of BOU goals and objectives.

    Provide leadership in the appropriate marketing and public relations activities that support achievement of BOU goals at all levels of the University.

    Advise and assist executive and senior management on corporate and stakeholder engagement matters.

    Serve as the primary information about BOU in local and international media.

    Provide input in areas pertaining to the department’s functions towards a broader university agenda.

    Oversee and monitor the realisation of own department’s Key Results Areas and staff performance, and make decisions on matters to improve unit and departmental performance.

     
     
    Qualifications, Experience
     
     

    At least a Masters in Corporate Communications/Marketing/Mass Communication/Public Relations or related field from a recognized institution.

    Membership of a recognized institute of public relations, marketing, design, or communication strategy, as appropriate.

    At least 10 years of relevant application work experience, with at least 5 years at senior management position.

    Proven experience in the use of IT software/applications relevant to the position.

    Experience in a higher education or management position will be an added advantage.

    Develop, lead and be accountable for research, development, review and implementation of library strategy, policy, plans, processes, procedures, guidelines and systems.

    Ensure a quality assurance function over the full life cycle of library resource management.

    Oversee acquisition, organization, and management of information resources to meet the needs of multiple learners and practitioners.

    Ensure effective integration of library services within the university’s learning management system and other e-learning platforms.

    Promote and support open educational resources (OER) open science, and digital scholarship initiatives.

    Establish partnerships with relevant, regional, and international library networks and consortia.

     
     
    Qualifications, Experience
     
     

    At least a Masters in Library and Information Science or a related field from a recognized institution.

    PhD will be an added advantage.

    At least 10 years of progressive experience in academic libraries, with at least 5 years at senior management.

    Proven experience in digital library management and support of distance learning and e-learning.

    Knowledge of digital library technologies, metadata, repositories, and scholarly communication.

    Demonstrated leadership, management, and organizational skills.

    Demonstrable ability to lead and manage change.

    Experience in a higher education institution with a strong affiliation with emerging trends in library science (e.g., AI, metadata standards, discovery systems).
