Job Description
The Nigerian History Educator is responsible for teaching historical concepts, national heritage, local cultures, heroes/heroines, and civic evolution across designated primary grade levels.
This role requires aligning lessons with the official Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council NERDC History curriculum while adapting delivery styles to engage young minds, foster critical thinking, and build respect for cultural diversity.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Delivery & Academic Instruction:
Engaging Pedagogy: Deliver interactive, age-appropriate history lessons using storytelling, primary sources, historical imagery, maps, and role-play to make history vivid and memorable.
Curriculum Alignment: Plan schemes of work, unit plans, and weekly lesson plans strictly following the NERDC Nigerian History guidelines and DTA’s academic calendar.
National Heritage & Identity: Teach topics covering family and community origins, regional cultures, traditional institutions, national symbols, notable heroes/heroines, and key historical milestones.
Inclusive Teaching: Adapt historical concepts to accommodate different learning abilities, ensuring every pupil can grasp key narratives and historical lessons.
Continuous Assessment, Grading & Compliance:
Assessment Management: Design, administer, and grade weekly classwork, homework, projects, and oral/written assessments.
Termly Examinations: Prepare balanced examination papers, grade scripts objectively, and input scores into the DTA school management software strictly by established SOP deadlines.
Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate academic records and monitor individual pupil growth in analytical thinking and historical recall.
Classroom Management & Learning Environment:
Stimulating Environment: Maintain a disciplined, structured, and visually rich classroom e.g., historical timelines, maps, photo displays of national figures.
Cultural Sensitivity: Foster a classroom environment that promotes unity in diversity, mutual respect among different ethnic groups, and civic responsibility.
Professional & Administrative Standards:
Parent-Teacher Interaction: Participate actively in Open Days and Parent-Teacher Conferences, providing constructive feedback on pupils’ academic and civic development.
Exhibitions & Events: Collaborate with peer teachers on cultural events, National Day celebrations, and history-themed exhibitions or debates.
Professional Growth: Attend weekly staff meetings, academic workshops, and continuous professional development programs.
Qualifications
Interested candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree with 4 – 7 years experience.
