  • Vertical Equipper Safety Officer Projects Site Engineer

    The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

    Effective and efficient supervision of the mining crew to achieve production targets
    Plan, schedule and control activities to ensure availability of resources, materials and equipment
    Effective management of materials, consumables and explosives
    Participate in waiting place / pre-shift meetings and ensure parameters relating to quality, quantity, cost and safety are understood
    Team and self-perform drilling, blasting, lashing, shaft lining and equipping to standard
    Team and self-understand and comply with M&RC’s policies, procedures, standards
    Proactive risk identification and mitigation in compliance with DMR, M&RC and Client’s safety requirements
    Effective self-management and alignment with MRC values and leadership initiatives

    Minimum requirements

    Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

    Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent
    Blasting Certificate
    Basic Rigging Certificate
    Onsetter Certificate [advantageous]
    Licence to Supervise or equivalent supervisory qualification
    Valid First Aid Certificate
    Supervisory skills
    Proficient in Microsoft [Word and Excel]
    Planning and organising skills
    Good English verbal and written communication skills

    Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

    At least 4 years as Vertical Shaft Equipper with experience in heavy steel erection, underground construction, re-enforcing and form work
    Experience in effective team supervision and planning, organising and control of activities to achieve production targets
    Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
    Working knowledge of bulk heads, conveyor belts, tip and box fronts

    Qualifications and Experience:

    B-Tech / National Diploma Environmental Health
    National Diploma Food Technology or Food Science with supplementary HACCP and ISO 22 000 implementation experience
    Occupational Health and Safety experience
    Minimum of 5 years Industry experience – in food production /food manufacturing/auditing of food safety management system.

    Key areas of responsibility:

    Manage at a contract level, the company’s Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety Management systems.
    Work closely with the onsite management teams, leading from the front and addressing unsafe behaviours and practices.
    Oversea and verify the housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitation in the facility.
    Verify the implementation of all Pre-Requisite Programmes and work closely with the facilities teams to address maintenance issues.
    Implement and monitor the Personnel Hygiene Programme and ensure alignment with site and client requirements.
    Ensure that all procedures are documented, and the staff are fully trained and competent.
    Monitor and verify all CCP’s.
    Training of staff members on all aspects of the Food Safety Management System and OHS Standard Operating Procedures.
    Be a confident and strong communicator, with the ability to engage and mobilise team members in the implementation and management of the Food Safety Management System. On food and OHS safety
    Be a systems thinker with the ability to assess a situation, interpret the facts and formulate a plan of action to address non-conformances and deviation to process.
    Be able to work with a variety of different people and across all levels of the organisation.
    Be agile, flexible, resilient and be able to handle a demanding workload.
    Working within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve the overall Food Safety and Occupational Health and Safety objectives of the organization.
    Handle challenging situations and customers (internal and external).
    Conduct internal system and process audits, classifying and detailing non-conformances and implementing and verifying the necessary corrective action (where appropriate).
    Maintain all record keeping, documentation and reports.
    Provide regular feedback to on-site and regional management and the client.
    Verify the quality, safety, and compliance of all incoming ingredients to specification.
    Investigate and ensure the close out of all incidents following a robust investigative process and by conducting a Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
    Ensure the contract is legally compliant.
    Liaise and comply with the clients, suppliers, local Environmental Health Practitioners (EHP), Department of Health officials, fire department requirements.
    Adhere to the company Business Code of Ethics and rules of confidentiality.
    Be professional in all communication channels and keep your colleagues and units informed of any developments or changes relevant to their daily duties.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements, standards and specifications
    Perform daily inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, operational and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor
    Develop, modify, construct and install all types of trade related equipment required for the safe operation of all engineering equipment
    Ensure that all installations and equipment are safe and in good working order after task completion
    Continuously monitor equipment failure and efficiency to improve trade specific equipment and systems
    Consult with production teams on maintenance activities that effects production
    Supports the achievement of engineering availability and production performance levels
    Ensure that maintenance related information is recorded and reported to the relevant planning office to support the maintenance of the planned/asset maintenance system

    Qualification Requirements

    Valid section 13 Trade test / Section 26(D) certificate required
    Valid driver’s license code B, EB or C1
    Own transport to attend to call outs

    Experience and Skills Requirements

    Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience as a qualified artisan
    English Language Proficiency
    Time management skill
